Certification standards have an essential part to play in ensuring the safety and integrity of our food, from ingredients to finished products, and from supply chains to processing units. However, to compete more advantageously and to protect their brand, many businesses are going beyond compliance. And this is where the LRQA Assurance Programmes come into play


The Certification Officer will play an integral role within this, working within the team in ensuring audit delivery is delivered to a high standard by qualified and trained auditors, meeting the KPI/specification of LRQA clients and assisting with the planning operation for all LRQA schemes and allocations of the audits to ensure delivery on time to agreed Client KPI’s


Reporting to the Technical Assurance Manager, the Certification Officer will be responsible for working with the Technical Assurance Manager and Assurance Officer to support the running of the Food Assurance Schemes. They will be responsible for evaluating and certifying assessment reports in accordance with UKAS accreditation requirements and scheme owner KPIs and also delivering a first-class customer service experience.


The Certification Officer will be required to undergo relevant scheme training and, where relevant, achieve pass rates in any associated exams/on-line tests to allow them to make certification decisions and ultimately deliver assessments to the principle schemes.


The Certification Officer will be required to routinely provide feedback on the viability and accuracy of process, work instructions and quality procedures and where required participate in the UKAS office assessment for the relevant scopes, attend UKAS witnessed assessments.





Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake application reviews for new clients or application renewals for current Clients. Process applications (application review & adding member to AIMS system as required).
  • Confirming and approving scopes on application and where necessary the categories, (for BRCGS) auditor and Technical Reviewer and confirming the planning team to allocate audits.
  • Send application renewals out to current members via the aims systems to ensure members renew on time ahead of audit for all schemes including BRCGS.
  • Support the Technical Assurance Manager and Assurance Officer in delivery evaluation and technical reviews of completed audit reports and upload to Clients Directories as required.
  • Lead on the BRCGS Directory and become the expert in uploading BRCGS certificates and reports to this directory and pulling data for monthly team meetings to show where we can improve, ahead of the BRCGS Client monthly meetings and KPI reports to keep us agile and ahead.
  • Work with the Assurance Officer to provide scheme support to auditors, members, participants and LRQA teams.
  • Gather Pre Audit documentation, review this and add to Aims system so that auditors can access this information ahead of the audit and then store this information as per scheme requirements.
  • Log corrective evidence onto the AIMS system in a timely manner to ensure the certification process meets KPIs - Dealing with any Corrective Actions
  • Issue out correspondence and certificates in line with the Quality Procedures and KPIs
  • Work with Aims systems to ensure the BRGCS schemes are utilising the automation of letters going out to members.
  • Participating in internal audits and manage close out of actions across the schemes.
  • Chase overdue audits not booked in by auditors and chase any completed assessment reports using appropriate systems in accordance with Quality Procedures (where required).
  • Administration and process spot check, short notice and unannounced audit requests as required.
  • Administration of joiners and leavers, for applicable schemes.
  • Manage the LR Organic Processors & Producers admin and supporting the Planning and Admin Teams with the running of this scheme, Setting New auditors up on Aims. Track KPIs weekly and publish these to the Client
  • Assist in the maintenance of ongoing audit delivery compliance with ISO17065 in accordance with Quality Procedures
  • Manage the BRCGS in box and assist the Technical Assurance Manager with daily auditor and Client queries
  • Work with the Technical Assurance Manager to ensure all schemes are up to date on Aims systems to manage the team dashboards and support the Technical Assurance Manager in ensuring the BRCGS dashboard is monitored. Lead on BRCGS and keep the team update at all times and within all part of the process requirements to achieve delivery on time.
