The data analyst undertakes data analysis and uses creativity and technical expertise to visualise and communicate findings in creative ways. The role is part of the Foundation’s global safety evidence insight centre, and the data from our World Risk Poll will provide a major source of input. The Poll provides opportunities for novel data analysis, and collaboration with academics and other parties.

 

Working across the Foundation the analyst will also work with a broad range of safety data to inform the future direction of our challenge areas and provide society with evidence-based information, generating an inspiring narrative about hypotheses that can be tested through our grants programme, and about interventions that work.

Acting as an ambassador for the Foundation, the Data Analyst will build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, representing the Foundation externally including presenting the Foundation’s purpose, strategy, activities and impact

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the formulation of research questions for data analysis
  • Transform, model and analyse data to produce clear and high quality qualitative and quantitative analyses to support the Foundation’s strategy, programmes and projects, collaborating closely with colleagues
  • Communicate with colleagues and external stakeholders to clearly and concisely explain the data, analysis and findings
  • Design and develop creative data visualisations to communicate findings in creative ways, including in publications, on the Foundation’s website and for use in presentations and on social media
  • Scope and execute individual data analysis projects, managing the day-to-day from initiation to final reporting across a portfolio of activities
  • Support the commissioning of reviews and analysis from third parties
  • Critically appraise data products (e.g. surveys or research) from external sources
  • Provide technical expertise to support the selection of potential grant holders
  • Act as project lead on projects funded by EIC
  • Ensure that activities comply with internal governance requirements
  • Identify gaps in data and data quality issues, and provide insight on implications and the potential impact on analysis
  • Identify new ways to source data, and apply new capabilities including predictive analytics
  • Aid the Foundation Directors in the development and assessment of grant proposals
  • Build relationships with the data holding community and wider stakeholders
  • Raise awareness and actively educate the public about the work of the Foundation
  • Provide updates and content for newsletters, website, press releases and social media
  • Coordinate with experts within Lloyd’s Register Group to maximise impact of evidence and insight

 

To be considered

  • Experience as a data analyst, data scientist, data engineer or related quantitative role
  • Experience in the safety or engineering sector (desirable)
  • Experience in applying statistics and analytics to develop data driven insights in a research context
  • Experience answering research questions using a quantitative, data-driven, analytical approach
  • Understanding of how data could be utilized to inform decision making on successful safety interventions
  • Ability to conduct advanced statistical analyses, including multi-level regressions, cluster analysis, factor analysis, etc
  • Experience using statistical data analysis and data mining packages (e.g, R, SAS, STATA, SPSS, Excel)
  • Experience of data visualisation using Tableau, PowerBI or other relevant software
  • A bachelor’s or higher qualification in a relevant discipline, with a substantial numeric content; a post-graduate degree is desirable, especially if applied within a social science context
  • Experience working with data in various forms (data warehouses/SQL, unstructured data environments)
  • Experience in appraising data products (e.g. surveys or research) from external sources
  • Awareness of developments in data science, for example text mining, natural language processing and machine learning
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and networking skills with an ability to collaborate with teams and contractors at all levels
  • Excellent communication of technical concepts to expert and non-expert audiences and where English may not be the first language
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to write clear and concise research reports
  • Experience of project management
  • Proactive, creative and self-starting nature
  • Ability to work to deadlines and effectively prioritise
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and with attention to detail
  • Intellectual curiosity, along with excellent problem-solving and quantitative skills, including the ability to disaggregate issues, identify root causes and recommend solutions
