Role Purpose

As part of our continued expansion, LR Software are looking for an ambitious Principal Software Developer to join our growing development team, based in Aberdeen.

Your duties will include

  • Provide architectural direction on large-scale enterprise project implementations.
  • Take responsibility for the clarifying specifications with the product owner, design, coding, testing and documentation of particularly large, complex or mission critical programs.
  • Carry out all aspects of the software life cycle to a high standard without supervision.
  • Oversee performance of programming staff, report on their effectiveness and take action to remedy deficiencies. Provide advice, guidance and assistance to less experienced colleagues as required.
  • Ensure that Agile process is followed by team and self and pro-actively develop the process
  • Provide expert advice in some or all aspects of the programming methods, tools or standards used in the organisation.
  • Effectively estimate completion time and ensure delivery to these agreed timescales.
  • Acquire advanced domain knowledge and broad understanding of the company’s products.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training and development of programming staff.


To be considered

  • Extensive experience in designing and developing cloud-based applications (particularly in Azure)
  • Significant knowledge on container technologies (e.g. Docker)
  • Significant experience in C# .net Core development
  • Significant experience in developing web services
  • Significant relational database experience (SqlServer) including experience of Entity Framework
  • Significant knowledge and practice of SOLID OO-design principles and design patterns
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management systems (e.g. SAP, Maximo)
  • Significant experience in creating and maintaining unit tests including mocking
  • Significant experience in reviewing and testing development code
  • Experience of leading software development projects



  • Experience in web development using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Angular, Typescript
  • Knowledge of Asset Integrity and Maintenance an advantage, but not essential
  • Experience of working within agile software development environment
  • Experience of working with Mercurial, Fogbugz and Trello
