Lloyd's Register is looking to recruit a Senior Flexible Riser and Flowline Specialist to join our UK Pipelines Team. The role will include the appraisal of flexible pipe cross-section design methodologies developed from first principles by various flexible pipe manufacturers. As such the successful candidate will require strong analytical skills, a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and specialist knowledge in the design and analysis of flexible risers and flowlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent LR at industry forums, during early discussions with new clients, and throughout project executions;
- Discuss and develop work scopes and budgets with internal and external clients at a senior level;
- Undertake design appraisal activities within the agreed parameters including budget constraints and contractual requirements;
- Collaborate closely with colleagues from other departments and business streams ensuring a seamless customer experience;
- Make suggestions to improve service delivery effectiveness and efficiency (where applicable);
- Coach less experienced colleagues and act as a mentor to colleagues as agreed with line manager;
- Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness;
- Contribute to technology development as agreed with line manager.
Essential Requirements
- Specialist knowledge and experience of unbonded flexible pipeline cross section design methodologies, polymer and composite material qualification, gas permeation and global dynamic analysis;
- Specialist knowledge in key areas of flexible pipe design engineering, including design codes (particularly API 17J, API 15S and DNVGL-ST-F119), legislative requirements and current good engineering practice;
- Experience working directly for or indirectly with a manufacturer of flexible pipes would be an advantage;
- Comprehensive experience in the design and analysis of subsea pipelines;
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering;
- Strong capability to multi-task and manage priorities;
- Effective communications in written and spoken English with the ability to prepare, discuss and present deliverables to a client at a senior level.
General Requirements:
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards);
- Strong project management and coordination skills;
- Knowledge of pipeline operations, and experience in developing non‑linear finite element models for pipeline applications would be an advantage;
- Prior direct experience of design appraisal would be an advantage;
- Knowledge of Type Approval would be an advantage;
- Experience of performing global dynamic analysis of riser systems using Orcaflex, Flexcom or Abaqus would be an advantage;
- Experience of ancillary equipment design and qualification would be an advantage;
- Experience of umbilical and cable design and analysis would be an advantage;
- Experience with composite materials would be an advantage;
- Experience of TCP & RTP pipes would be an advantage;
- Experience of hydrogen transport by pipeline would be an advantage.
