What we’re looking for
We are currently seeking a professional to join our expert Hull Structures Rule Development Team. In this role, you will actively contribute to the development, refinement, and implementation of structural rules and guidelines that ensure the safety, performance, and regulatory compliance of maritime vessels.
This position presents an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of ship standards. With an ambitious programme of work in the coming years, your involvement will be instrumental in helping us achieve these goals.
The Rules Team is part of the Technical Directorate, which is responsible for:
- Developing and maintaining technical policy and reference materials
- Managing external relations with key stakeholders such as flag states, IMO, and IACS

The Role :
- Assist in the development and maintenance of structural rules for ships, naval ships and small craft
- Conduct research and technical analysis on structural integrity, fatigue, and failure modes
- Collaborate with senior colleagues to ensure compliance with international standards (e.g., IMO, IACS) and regulatory requirements
- Contribute to technical reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders
- Stay updated on industry trends, innovations, and best practices in naval architecture and structural engineering
- Work towards achieving CEng status or equivalent
What you bring
- A degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, or equivalent) in Naval Architecture or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of industry regulations and classification societies' rules (e.g., IACS, IMO)
- Proficiency in CAD software and analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good communication and teamwork abilities, with a desire to learn and grow
Desirable:
- Experience with ship design and structural analysis (internships, projects, etc.)
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or MATLAB for simulation and automation
