What we’re looking for

We are seeking an experienced Marine Engineering professional to provide technical leadership and advisory support across newbuild projects and emerging marine technologies. The ideal candidate will offer extensive knowledge of marine mechanical and electrical systems, regulatory requirements, project execution, and technical risk evaluation, while assisting clients from early design through construction and final delivery.

The role

• Act as the engineering and electro-technical lead linking Newbuild & Novel Technology Support with relevant pre-contract and post-contract services, ensuring a fully integrated "One LR Service" offering to owners, charterers, shipyards and designers worldwide. 

• Provide marine engineering and electro-technical expertise to support new build projects across all phases, from concept design through construction, commissioning and delivery.

•  

  Support shipowners, charterers, designers and shipyards by: 

   

• Reviewing and advising on technical specifications, drawings and system designs 

   

• Undertaking owner's plan approval activities 

   

• Advising on statutory, Class and regulatory compliance requirements, including emerging and novel technologies 

   

• Perform complex technical assessments and deliver specialist advisory services covering, 

   

• Engineering design integrity 

   

• Electrical power generation, distribution, automation and control systems 

   

• Budgetary, contractual and technical risk considerations 

   

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and forthcoming international regulations, Class Rules and industry standards applicable to, 

   

• Marine engineering systems 

   

• Electrical and electro-technical installations 

   

• Alternative fuels, hybrid propulsion systems, energy storage solutions and digital technologies 

   

• Undertake engineering reviews, technical analyses and feasibility studies, including preparation of, 

   

• Technical assessment reports. 

   

• Regulatory gap analyses 

   

• Technology qualifications and risk assessments 

   

• Advisory papers related to novel and emerging technologies 

   

• Provide technical advisory services related to decarbonization, alternative fuels and emerging marine technologies, including LNG, methanol, ammonia, hydrogen, biofuels and onboard energy systems. 

•  

  Undertake reviews of vessel automation, integrated control systems, digital technologies and cyber resilience requirements, including compliance with applicable Class and industry standards. 

   

• Provide technical support during construction, commissioning and delivery phases, including participation in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Harbour Acceptance Tests (HATs), sea trials and delivery readiness assessments where required.

  Perform the role of Project Manager where required, managing multiple projects to ensure, 

   

• Delivery in accordance with LR quality systems 

   

• Compliance with contractual obligations 

   

• Effective cost control, scheduling and risk management

   

• Review and provide technical assurance of project deliverables to ensure consistency, quality and technical robustness prior to issue to clients. 

   

• Support business development activities through client engagement, technical-commercial discussions, proposal preparation, and identification of new advisory opportunities. 

   

• Ensure consistency and quality of service delivery, meeting agreed timelines and maintaining a high level of technical accuracy in all advice and project outputs. 

   

• Carry out all required administrative and reporting activities in line with LR processes, governance and documentation standards. 

•  

  Conduct all activities in full alignment with LR internal procedures, accreditation requirements, applicable legislation and recognized international industry standards. 

•  

  Actively pursue Continuous Professional Development (CPD), maintaining a high level of awareness and capability in relevant engineering, electro-technical and emerging marine technologies. 

What you bring

• Degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or equivalent marine qualification with relevant seagoing experience.
• A Class I/II engineering certificate for Chief or Second Engineer, or an applicable engineering degree.
• 8+ years' experience in the shipping industry, including newbuilding, technical superintendent, shipowner technical teams, or seagoing engineering roles.
• Thorough knowledge of marine mechanical and electrical systems, vessel design, and operations.
• Understanding of Class Rules, statutory regulations, and emerging marine technologies.
• Experience in technical assessments, project delivery, and stakeholder management.
• Effective communication and project coordination skills.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or working towards accreditation, is desirable.
