With the ongoing manufacture of the new Submarines at BAE Systems in Barrow in Furness, LR needs to boost the existing team in providing independence oversight of the submarine building activities and assurance of the supply chain.


The role represents an opportunity to become involved in and gain experience of high integrity and technically challenging marine construction activities which are unique.


We are looking for candidates with a good level of large-scale new construction and system installation experience who can help us support BAE, but also someone who is also willing to develop new knowledge and skills. We have an ambition to develop the submarines business in the UK and worldwide this represents an opportunity to join a growth part of the business.


For the successful candidate there could be an opportunity to develop and be promoted to the project managers position


Job Responsibilities:

  • Carry out survey activities in accordance with the Standards, procedures and contractual requirements in line with certificate of authorisation.
  • Implement the BAE Safety Strategy on site and at subcontractors in the designated area
  • Undertake patrol and audit activities of steel construction and mechanical installation.
  • Provide technical resource and support to the Project Manager.
  • Deal with local technical enquiries.
  • Implement project systems and processes.
  • Ensure that information and knowledge is shared with the Project Team members
  • Provide information for internal monthly reporting, progress and issues for the project
  • Carry out other specific duties required by the Project Manager.
  • Anticipate and Identify key technical challenges for the Project in specialist area and advise PM
  • Identify key personnel within local BAE team and build relationships between them and LR.


Job Requirements:

  • Experience of new construction hull and machinery surveys.
  • Experience of equipment and component certification.
  • Knowledge of national standards and codes, MED, PED, BSEN
  • Knowledge of Naval & Classification rules
  • Knowledge of Submarines Desirable
  • Understanding of requirements for equipment certification and experience of survey work in the supply chain.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proactive approach and able to work independently
  • UK National (sole) for security
