The Head of Master Data Management is responsible for the fledgling Master Data Management (MDM) programme at Lloyd’s Register, ensuring that our strategy and roadmap for MDM develops in line with business needs and priorities. You will be responsible for defining the Master Data Management process and service model across the organisation, consolidating existing solutions and methods, and working with the Architecture team on defining and maintaining Master Data Management strategy and implementation


The Head of Master Data Management is responsible for ensuring that the correct strategy, processes and high-level designs for all forms of Master Data are developed and in place to deliver the business value expected, improve customer experience and are optimised to facilitate future change.


The Head of Master Data Management also needs to ensure that subsequent low-level data processes and controls are fit-for-purpose and designed and implemented according to a well-defined strategic roadmap. This could cover hands on design work through to data and architectural governance and oversight across multiple teams within the organisation.

The Head of Master Data Management within LR (Lloyd s Register) is a dynamic role and you should expect to be overseeing multiple initiatives across multiple “products” and/or “platforms” based on where strategic investment is being focused at the time.



  • Drive the implementation of a strategic Master Data Management solution across domains including “Customer”, “User”, “Asset” (Marine Vessels and “floating objects”) and “products”
  • Work with Enterprise Architecture and Data Architecture to develop and leverage a comprehensive master data view across Corporation systems, enabling integration and reconciliation and ensuring it is complete, accurate and up to date
  • Work with key Product Managers and Product Owners across and outside the organisation to develop and manage key master data business processes and technologies
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) including information processing, policies, strategies, standards, and procedures to keep and protect the integrity and structure of material master data and add value and/or competitive advantage
  • Define requirements and rules for data consolidation, including data quality checking, matching, and merging, supported by data governance and stewardship structures
  • Create functional specifications for system and configuration changes due to application modifications
  • Assist with data mappings, modelling, profiling, query design, strategy, governance, and data quality improvement
  • In collaboration with Data Architecture and delivery teams, review and approve technical designs for architectural requirements and contribute to the design and development of reusable services and automate flow of data between disparate sources
  • Conduct source system analysis, data profiling and data quality monitoring and remediation for data lifecycle management
  • Participate in capacity planning, deployment, automation, and performance management of key applications
  • Develop a master data governance framework for implementation in business as usual and project modes, including change management processes and stewardship structures



To be considered

Experience of leading Master Data Management initiatives in complex business environments to the benefit of business efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Participating in or leading Data Warehousing/Business Intelligence implementation teams, managing project scope, and providing technical leadership
  • Experience in Data Architecture/Modelling, ETL, Data Quality and MDM tools, Data Quality Services, and Master Data Services
  • Experience in working with large volumes of data from disparate data sources across complex business processes and functions
  • Experience developing Data Governance and other related data quality and compliance standards
  • Detailed understanding of Master Data Management
  • Knowledge in related information management arenas, such as Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Architecture, and Data Integration
  • Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical audiences
  • Business focused and able to establish and maintain stakeholder relationships
  • Understanding of project management, change management and systems processes
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to influence others
  • Be educated to bachelor’s degree level or related study or equivalent experience.
