Role Purpose:

This job advert is for the role of a Senior Specialist working in the Hydrodynamics team as part of the Technical Support Office. The successful candidate could be based anywhere globally.


As part of a small and dedicated team, you will be primarily working on hydrodynamics related development of analysis procedures, rules and research. Your work will also involve providing technical support to our local and global clients and surveyors; and answering a wide range of complex technical queries.


You will have access to a range of training courses and professional development opportunities. Working at Lloyd's Register, you will be working alongside other technical teams, plan approval offices, software and consultancy departments.


Key responsibilities:

• Working as senior member of the Hydrodynamics team carrying out projects related to the development of ship structural analysis procedures, rules and research topics primarily on the strength, fatigue and vibration of ship structure.

• To take the lead and undertake management of projects and produce the deliverable within the agreed broad parameters in an appropriate format. Take responsibility to review other employee’s work as requested.

• Providing specialist technical advice related to ship hydrodynamics analysis to internal and external clients globally at a senior level, which will include designers, shipyards and other LR surveyors and specialists.

• To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness of LR’s rules and procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.

• Mentoring, coaching and developing other employees, as appropriate, to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.

• Contribute to the bid and win processes for new projects by accurately estimating time requirements and developing scopes of work.

• Actively seeking to ensure client satisfaction and to generate new opportunities with our clients.

• The above job description does not preclude the assignment of other duties by the line manager.


Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:

• A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme).

• Membership of an appropriate professional institution.

• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.

• Proficiency in the English Language (written and oral) commensurate with the work and an ability to write clear and detailed technical reports, guidelines, and proposals.

• Specialist in hydrodynamic methods.

• Good working knowledge of four or more of the following: statistical analysis methods, full scale measurements, sloshing analyses, computational fluid dynamics, ship model testing, structural reliability, structural dynamics, fluid structural interaction.

• General knowledge of structural analysis methods, including Finite Element analysis, and their application to ship and floating structures. General knowledge of fatigue.

• Good understanding of the background of the loads aspects of LR's Rules.
