Role purpose:

 

To assess the design, manufacture and in-service aspects of engineering assets, against agreed Codes, Standards, specifications, procedures, using experience and knowledge appropriate for routine situations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To perform assessments, provide specialist advice/solution and training to internal/external clients; undertake research or development work within agreed parameters including budget and contractual requirements.
  • To produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in a defined format including contract terms and conditions.
  • To pursue Continuing Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • To assess/recommend scope, cost, time, resources of the work to be undertaken for an internal/external client meeting  contractual/project  requirements.
  • To discuss/present the deliverable with internal/external client and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with the current processes and procedures.
  • To assist improvement in service delivery by communicating internal/external client feedback as appropriate.
  • To give technical guidance to other employees, as appropriate and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • To conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
  • To contribute to internal/external client management as appropriate by acting as point of contact to effectively manage client and LR relationships.
  • To make suggestions to improve service delivery effectiveness through changes to processes or work scope such that it leads to a reduction in appraisal effort (where applicable).
  • To maintain demonstrable technical competence by ensuring that competency codes remain valid by taking ownership of the activity monitoring and revalidation.

 

 

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Shall possess a relevant Professional Engineering degree from a recognized university or equivalent, and be registered with ECSA and must meet the requirements of Table 1 in SANS 10227.
  • Shall possess sufficient relevant previous working experience to demonstrate good awareness of the relevant specialist requirements, knowledge and application. Likely to have 4-5 years relevant working experience.
  • Experience in design /appraisal of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, piping and tanks, composite pressure vessels.
  • Essential to have knowledge of application of appropriate national/international standards like ASME, EN13445, PD5500, EN12952, EN12953
  • Proficiency in the use of calculation software like PVELITE, COMPRESS, ANSYS etc
  • Proficiency in use of FEA software and knowledge of design by analysis requirements.
  • Knowledge in piping flexibility analysis and CAESAR software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of  PER, SANS 10227, SANS 347 2019
  • Experience in inspection of pressure equipment will be an advantage
  • Effective Interpersonal skills including communication and reporting in English at all levels.
  • Proficiency in MS office is essential.
