The role 

  • Execute and oversee relevant tasks, offering guidance and alternative solutions for service delivery within areas of expertise, while adhering to budget constraints and contractual obligations specified by Marine Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Perform activities in accordance with internal protocols, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high level of discipline, knowledge, and awareness.
  • Administer team-related tasks in alignment with current processes and procedures related to planning, conducting, and reporting requirements for Marine Management System (MMS) audits. This includes tasks such as contract preparation, supporting service requests/delivery, conducting service reviews and follow-up activities, as well as control, monitoring, and support functions.
  • Provide technical support and actively seek solutions to challenges faced by auditors and inspectors. Support client management and Service Delivery (SD) teams by offering technical advice and collaborating with clients/auditors on technical issues that require in-depth investigation, especially in building surveying/valuation and other related services. Manage client expectations and offer professional guidance and support when necessary, particularly concerning their ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISO certification. Proactively manage and address issues and problems as they arise.
  • Aid the Business Development (BD) team in securing more MMS business by providing feedback on business opportunities and managing projects in accordance with quality system requirements, cost structures, budgetary constraints, and contractual obligations. Make recommendations based on feedback from internal and external clients to contribute to process improvements in service delivery.
  • Mentor and coach other employees to facilitate effective knowledge transfer and application. Develop proficient auditor resources by identifying resource requirements, training auditors/inspectors, and monitoring MMS authorizations. Ensure that Activity Monitoring is conducted and reported as per management system requirements.
  • Act as the intermediary between LRQA (Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance) regarding all ISO-related matters. Key responsibilities include arranging cross-training for our Safety Management (SM) auditors to become ISO assessors.
  • Support Area Managers/Technical Performance Managers in conducting and recommending locations for MMS Verification Technical Audits (VTA) and ensure consistent implementation of corrective actions stemming from internal and external audits, as well as findings from activity monitoring and investigations to assess their effectiveness. Carry out VTA/BAR (Before and After Review) for MMS within the region.
  • Offer breathing room, on-the-job training, and mentoring to attain consistent competency levels among auditors and supporting staff. Ensure that appropriate auditor/inspector authorizations are maintained across all areas.
  • Provide technical expertise and assistance in investigating Port State Control (PSC) and related cases, with a focus on reducing PSC detentions. Liaise with Flag Administrations and communicate with flag states as necessary for extensions, authorizations, and various cases, including PR17, PSC detentions, and Additional Verification Audits/Inspections.
  • Offer support as needed or provide guidance for special audits/inspections, such as PSC/FSC detentions and PR17, ensuring compliance with flag state requirements and instructions.
  • Review and approve/revalidate auditors/inspectors' Activity Codes and Technical Competencies.

 

 

What you bring 

 

  • A degree or equivalent qualification from a tertiary institution recognized by Lloyd’s Register in a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of a two-year program) or qualifications obtained from a marine or nautical institution, along with relevant sea-going experience as a certified ship's officer.
  • Membership in an appropriate professional institution.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Proficiency in the English language that aligns with the demands of the work.
  • Profound knowledge of the Maritime Labour Convention, ISM & ISPS Codes, Flag State Rules & Regulations, MMS procedures, and the requirements for ISO certification for Clients. Proficiency in liaising with M & O (Management and Operations) and LRQA (Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance). Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across various functional areas.
  • Prior experience in budget monitoring.
  • Certification as an ISM/ISPS Lead auditor and MLC Inspector, with a preference for ISO Lead Assessor qualifications covering ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018. Additional expertise as an Assessor and Ship Technical Expert for ISO 50001:2018. Proven track record as a Lead Auditor/Inspector for ISM, ISPS, and MLC Code/Convention.
  • Capacity to undertake global technical responsibilities as outlined by the Marine Business Stream, with a commitment to meeting all role-specific requirements as per IMO Resolution A. 789 (19) as amended and IACS Procedure Requirements No. 7 and 10, which pertain to the qualification and training of surveyors and auditors.
