Specifically, through our food business LR provides a range of farm assurance services to 25,000+ farmers and growers throughout the UK & Ireland, including assessment and certification for leading brands such as Red Tractor (RT), Scottish Quality Cereals (SQC) and Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) as well as assessing compliance with environmental and high profile retailer schemes. Our certification portfolio covers a wide range of UK farming sectors and LR delivers assessment and certification for the Combinable Crop and Sugar Beet, Fresh Produce, Dairy, Pigs and Beef and Lamb Scheme,  thus providing members with the opportunity to benefit from combined assessments which saves them time and reduces cost and duplication whilst maximising market opportunities and potentially the benefit of reduced regulatory (government) inspections.

 

Working under the supervision of the Customer Service Assistant Manager (Certification) (CSAM), the certification officer will be primarily responsible for the technical review and certification decision of the audit for the key Livestock Schemes, namely Dairy, Beef & Lamb, Pigs, Livestock Markets and Livestock Haulage in accordance with the LR Quality Procedures, UKAS accreditation requirements and scheme owner KPIs.   

 

The Certification Officer will have a sound knowledge of the leading UK farm assurance schemes and scheme rules, in particular Red Tractor and QMS Schemes, and first-hand experience of farm assurance, either through their current role, auditing or practical (i.e. being a member of a farm assurance scheme). A sound knowledge and experience within the crop and fresh produce sector would be an advantage.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Supporting the CSAM in delivery of the technical review and certification decision for completed audit reports.
  • Working under the guidance of the Techincal Managers and CSAM, ensuring that key scheme KPI’s, SLA’s and other requirements are maintained through the regular review of RAG reports and validation data in the core systems.
  • Carrying out application reviews and process scheme members/participants applications in accordance with the relevant Quality Procedures, meeting scheme SLA’s and KPI’s.
  • Ensuring that information relating to members and participants is maintained and updated in accordance with relevant scheme SLA’s and KPIs.
  • Providing scheme support to auditors, members, participants and scheme staff.
  • Ensuring that databases and client portals are updated in a timely manner, especially where membership, auditor, or client data changes.
  • Logging corrective evidence on AIMS & ASSIST in a timely manner to ensure the certification process meets KPI’s.
  • Issuing correspondence and certificates in line with Quality Procedures and KPI’s
  • Focussing on continual improvement of services to members, auditors and participants by taking part in internal and external events as required.

 

Technical/Professional Qualifications:

 

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant agriculture subject or a minimum of 2 years practical experience in the field of agriculture
  • Hold an approved certification qualification (Red Tractor or equivalent) and/or experience in delivering or participating in farm assurance assessments
  • Knowledge and understanding of UK agriculture industry legislation and codes of practice
  • Knowledge of agricultural quality assurance schemes within the livestock sector and/or arable sector, including food safety assurance, traceability and organic certification.

 

Skills:

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills either over the phone with a scheme member or when completing application forms for members or writing reports Focus on attention to detail
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Ability to handle difficult customers and have difficult conversations, often over the phone
  • Well organised with the ability to plan and schedule work effectively
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • IT literate and experienced with Microsoft Office
