The Role

The purpose of the role is to steer our Data & Distributed Systems Innovation for BA&IS. This will include delivering BA&IS Innovation and data development projects successfully to time, cost & quality.  You will work with the wider BA&IS team to use market data and customer feedback to shape the direction of our projects. You will also need to form strong links with external organisations to generate new project ideas and to ensure that you maximise the value from these relationships. 


This role forms a central part of achieving this strategy and will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the development of new digital products working closely with Lloyd's Register Group Inspection Services
  • Ensure a culture that supports the adoption of new technology and allow digital innovation to flourish
  • Provide excellent customer service and assist in Lloyd's Register’s transformation to putting the customer at the centre of our business


You will:

  • Horizon scanning for new technologies and approaches aligned to the strategic priorities in data and digital products as determined by the business. Undertake market/personal research, and proactive engagement with colleagues, technology providers, and personal networks; Document and communicate any findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Lead discovery work around a minimum viable product (MVP) for any new data intelligence product, collaborating with user experience (UX) and engineering teams to prototype and validate an MVP.
  • Hands on delivery of proof of concept trials, technology research and use of rapid prototyping tools to deliver proof of concept developments – this will include the use of Low Code platforms and leveraging Lloyd's Register’s technology and digital investments.
  • Manage various Strategic Innovation, New Product Development, and Internal Improvement projects, and steering focus to fulfil both innovation and wider business objective and priorities.
  • Technical input in shaping technology implementations, delivering of proof-of-concept trials, and reporting key learnings and feedback to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Working with clients and the wider BA&IS teams/functions (incl. Marketing/ Sales and Account Managers/ Technology/ Technical Quality departments/ Legal/ Leadership) to utilise market data, technical input, and customer feedback to shape the direction of projects.
  • Input in technology/product development priorities as part of the wider business strategy to ensure Lloyd's Register retains a competitive edge within new and existing sectors.
  • Produce detailed documentation for senior and other stakeholders detailing Innovation activities, including technology reports, project plans, Business cases, etc.
  • Support the Lloyd's Register-Labs Innovation Platform based on the Lloyd's Register Assure technology for use by business and its clients.


You will need:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in the Digital data and/or Technology space.
  • 3-5 years Product management experience in the digital technology and/or product development space, delivering projects successfully to time, scope, budget, managing risks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of functional heads, senior managers, and subject matter experts. Able to engage at all levels across the business in a business partnering style.
  • Experience of understanding client/business/industry-wide challenges and understand how to leverage technology to address these problems.
  • Demonstrated business acumen to take ideas from design to implementation and preferably experience of scaling a concept.
  • Have a proven track record of successfully supporting and delivering projects to quality, time, and cost, with demonstrable benefits to the business.
  • Ability to understand and assess complex and sometimes unfamiliar situations, visualise solutions and see through to resolution and work effectively within a matrix organisation.
  • An understanding and keen interest of distributed ledger/systems technology and other Industry 4.0 technologies. 
  • Result oriented, assertive, flexible and enthusiastic team player with a “can do” attitude. Ability to resolve problems and present appropriate business solutions and recommendations. 
  • Be Proficient in productivity and product management tools/software to produce
  • Desirable: Awareness of business prototyping, process modelling, and low-code platform tools, awareness of Innovation frameworks/methodologies (e.g. design thinking/ value proposition canvas). Knowledge of Industrial Manufacturing and/or Food supply chains/ sectors. Knowledge of Certification and Assurance sector services i.e. ISO standards.
