Role purpose:


The post holder will work closely with the Operations and Planning Manager and Technical Managers and Technical account manager and will be primarily responsible for the day to day management of the Global Animal Partnership (GAP)  Scheme , ensuring that the audit and certification process is delivered in accordance with scheme owners rules and KPIs.


The post holder will provide certification support through evaluation, technical review and certification of the other schemes delivered by the LRQA's Agricultural Team, in particular Schemes within the retail sector, and other large agricultural schemes that LRQA manage on behalf of scheme owners.


The post holder will be required to undergo relevant scheme training and, where applicable, achieve pass rates in any associated exams/on-line tests to allow them to make certification decisions and ultimately deliver assessments to the principle schemes.  The willingness to travel overseas to conduct assessments where necessary would be an advantage.


The post holder will be required to routinely review and update processes, work instructions and quality procedures, participate in the UKAS office assessment for the relevant scopes, attend UKAS witnessed assessments, and be responsible for identifying and conducting training needs of the certification team to ensure a consistent and competent approach to administration of the relevant schemes.


Responsibilities will include:-


  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the relevant scheme standards, operating procedures and certification options for effective management of the GAP Scheme
  • Carry out application reviews, evaluation, technical review and certification of audit reports as required and in accordance with LR Quality Procedures. In conjunction with the Agricultural Technical staff, review audits and ensure that any corrective actions are appropriate and are closed out according to timescales.
  • Maintain accurate information and documentation (including application materials, standards checklists etc) for standards and schemes as directed by the LR Quality Management System. All documentation maintained will be in line with current formatting, branding and distribution protocols.
  • Ensuring that the staff employed on inspection and certification duties are competent to carry out the functions they perform and manage and supervise the work of that team.
  • Ensure that assessment and surveillance inspections are carried out at appropriate frequency and in accordance with relevant Scheme rules & procedures.
  • In conjunction with the Agriculture Technical staff, ensure that the audit and inspection reports have sufficient content and clarity to permit certification decision.
  • Develop an understanding of the protocols relating to non-conformity management and the issue, renewal or withdrawal of Certificates of Conformity.
  • Ensure that applications and tenders to participate in agricultural GAP scheme operated by the Company are progressed in accordance with Scheme specific procedures and accurately costed.
  • Ensure that the programme of witnessed inspections are carried out efficiently and by appropriately qualified personnel to agreed timetables in line with scheme requirements
  • Through liaison with Scheme participants, develop an appreciation for client needs and service requirements.
  • Maintaining a good level of knowledge of international agricultural issues and impacts on standards
  • Liaison with scheme participants, Standard Owners and technical committees as necessary
  • Assist in maintaining any industry approvals and certifications as may be required in order for the certification entity to deliver its services to GAP
  • Maintain and monitor the complaints system to ensure complaints are promptly dealt with should they arise
  • Work with Agricultural Technical colleagues to support the delivery of schemes operated from Edinburgh as and when required
