Lloyd’ Register (LR) Customised Assurance provides a range of farm assurance services to 25,000+ farmers and growers throughout the UK & Ireland, including assessment and certification for leading brands such as Red Tractor (RT), Scottish Quality Cereals (SQC) and Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) as well as assessing compliance with environmental and high profile retailer schemes.


RT covers a wide range of UK farming sectors and LR delivers assessment and certification for the Combinable Crop and Sugar Beet, Fresh Produce, Dairy, Pigs and Beef and Lamb Scheme,  thus providing members with the opportunity to benefit from combined assessments which saves them time and reduces cost and duplication whilst maximising market opportunities and potentially the benefit of reduced regulatory (government) inspections.  The Scheme Manager will have a sound knowledge of the leading UK farm assurance schemes and scheme rules, in particular Red Tractor Dairy, Beef and Lamb and Pigs schemes and first-hand experience of farm assurance, either through their current role, auditing or practical (i.e being a member of a farm assurance scheme).


Currently LR delivers certification to the RT Dairy Scheme on more than 50% of UK dairy farms through contracts with a number of leading milk buyers (i.e. Arla, Meadow Foods, First Milk etc).  In addition, the majority of the dairy membership will also be members of the RT Beef and Lamb Scheme and in some cases the RT Combinable Crop & Sugar Beet Scheme.


Key Responsibilities: 


  • To work closely with the Operations and Planning Manager and Client Account Managers and build strong working relationships 
  • Responsible for the day to day management of the office-based Livestock Team, ensuring that the certification process is delivered in accordance with UKAS accreditation requirements
  • Undertaking evaluations and certification decisions of completed assessment reports
  • Ensure the team is delivering first class customer service experience
  • Routinely review and update processes, work instructions and quality procedures
  • Participate in the UKAS office assessment for the relevant scopes, attend UKAS witnessed assessments
  • Responsible for identifying and conducting training needs of the Certification Team to ensure a consistent and competent approach to administration of the relevant scheme
  • Management of the office-based Livestock Certification Team
  • Maintain up to date processes/work instructions and quality procedures
  • Reporting for key clients (milk buyers) and scheme owners
  • Liaising with CAMs – including assistance is monitoring and preparation of scheme owner KPI report
  • Conducting peer reviews and witness assessments
  • Attending key client meetings as required
  • Internal audit programme for the relevant schemes
  • Liaise with the Finance Operations Team to ensure timely submission of invoices
  • Conducting assessments and supporting the training of assessors




Technical/Profesional Qualifications/Requirements:


  • Degree/HND/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience in agriculture or related field
  • Sound knowledge of the UK farm assurance schemes (in particular dairy, livestock and organic schemes)
  • Awareness of the UK agriculture industry legislation and Codes of Practice
  • Knowledge of key industry consumer issues such as animal welfare, authenticity, environmental impact of farming practices
  • Line management experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and excellent attention to detail
  • Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint))
