What we’re looking for
A Surveyor to carry out inspection missions in new construction of ships or ships in service as part of our marine operations team in Spain. You will be based either in Valencia or Palma de Mallorca but travel within the country (and sometimes abroad) as required. Our customers are interested in our engineering expertise with a solution-based approach to reducing risk, ensuring they can operate efficiently and safely in the harshest of environments. You will be part of a team of passionate specialist, independently visiting client sites.

The role
- Perform classification and statutory surveys on board existing and new building ships in accordance with Lloyd’s Register Rules & Regulations, statutory instruments and respective codes, as well as surveys of marine materials, equipment and components at manufacturers’ works.
- Offer extensive advice, and applicable consultancy in areas of modern marine industry.
- Work with international marine rules and regulations.
- Responsible for project management involving marine surveys for new construction and shipping services, and marine equipment inspection services.
- Ensure reporting in accordance with corporate requirements and timescales to achieve targets set for key performance indicators.
- Discuss/present deliverables with the external client and be able to suggest alterative solutions where appropriate.
- Assess/recommend time/value of the work to be undertaken for an external client within an agreed fee/cost structure.
- Assist in service delivery improvement by communicating internal/external client feedback as appropriate.
- Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
- Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge, and awareness.
- Participate in and contribute to specific job training as directed.
- Provide guidance to other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
- Coach new and basic surveyors.
- Coordinate with Project Manager to ensure that job is carried out according to budget and contractual requirements.
What you bring
- A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
- Working towards or achieving charted or incorporated engineering status.
- Ability to work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
- Ability to use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
- Ability to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems and services.
- Experience to provide technical and commercial management, e.g. project management, process management.
- Awareness of the marine business environment, both in supporting existing business as well as reaching out for new opportunities.
- Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work.
- Proficiency in Spanish language is considered an advantage.
- Authorization to work in the respective country is preferred
