We are seeking to add a Marine Surveyor to our team to provide services in Ferrol - Spain. We are looking for somebody willing to:

  • Primarily, carry out duties of ship new building Surveyor in accordance with LR corporate Procedures and as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Additionally, to carry out existing ship surveys and surveys of components at manufacturers works.
  • Comply with contracts signed for New Construction, maintain the level of an effective and competitive service and ensure that all workload, processes and procedures are effective and efficient and meet business/commercial requirements for both internal and external clients.
  • Capable of dealing with flexible schedules and multi-tasking
  • Support other ports in Spain when the workload in Ferrol allows it.
  • Ready to move to another location within Spain once the project in Ferrol is completed.



  • Conduct survey activities in line with internal technical and administrative procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
  • To conduct relevant survey activities, providing advice and alternative solutions for service delivery within areas of experience, adhering to budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • Manage own compliance with prescribed OSH requirements. Monitor and review the quality and occupational safety and health performance for the office/department, suggesting and implementing recommendations for continual improvement.
  • Conduct and undertake activities in line with safety requirements and applying always the LR’s Golden Rules.
  • To produce the deliverable to the agreed schedule, budget and quality levels within an appropriate format and take responsibility to review and monitor other employee’s work as necessary.
  • To discuss and present the deliverables with internal/external clients at a senior level and be able to suggest solutions where necessary.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
  • To make recommendations based on internal/external client feedback to assist in process improvement, service delivery and to help build the business.  
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness
  • To provide support/advice within area of specialist knowledge to internal/external clients.
  • To make recommendations based on internal/external client feedback to assist in internal and external process improvement, service delivery and to help build the business working alongside the local Business Development team.
  • To ensure that time booked is either within the permissible range or fully understand the reasons why additional / reduced time was taken and where appropriate indicate where an increased fee should be charged.



  • Naval Architect or Marine Engineer degree
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Valid driving license for Spain
  • Computer literate
  • The candidate should demonstrate high communication and team working skills.
  • Previous working experience as a Marine Surveyor, Shipbuilding Engineer or Chief Engineer will be a plus
