What we’re looking for 

We are looking for professionals to evaluate challenging non-metallic materials issues for both internal and external clients, particularly in cases where the parameters are ambiguous, and to devise solutions in situations where past experiences offer no precedent. This role also entails overseeing commercial and research and development (R&D) project.

The role 

 

  • Assess complex non-metallic materials problems for internal and external clients, navigating situations where parameters are unclear and devising solutions without precedents.
  • Manage commercial and R&D projects, ensuring alignment with budget constraints and contractual obligations.
  • Conduct in-depth assessments and offer specialized advice for service delivery, research, or development work within established parameters, including budgetary and contractual considerations.
  • Produce deliverables in suitable formats within agreed parameters, and review the work of other employees upon request.
  • Engage in discussions and presentations with senior-level internal and external clients regarding deliverables, providing alternative solutions when necessary.
  • Handle administrative tasks in accordance with existing processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend the time and value of work for internal and external clients within agreed fee structures and commercial contract aspects.
  • Utilize internal and external client feedback to inform service delivery improvements and contribute to business development.
  • Contribute to internal and external client management activities as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development to maintain a high level of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Mentor and coach other technical employees to facilitate effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • Undertake project management duties as applicable, including monitoring project progress and expenditures against budget and contractual requirements.

 

 

 

What you bring 

 

  • A degree or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution within the relevant field of material science, chemical engineering, or physical science (minimum 2 years program). Demonstrated expertise in polymer chemistry is essential for this position.
  • Extensive experience in resin chemistry and formulation, encompassing both thermoset and thermoplastic materials, with a focus on applications in the marine and offshore sectors.
  • Proficiency in understanding non-metallic materials, including their composition and suitability for use in composite parts and manufacturing processes.
  • Membership in an appropriate professional institution.
  • Working towards attaining Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Proficient in the English language to meet the demands of the role.
  • Competence in database operation for IT-related tasks.
  • Extensive industrial experience in non-metallic material characterization.
