We are looking for an Operational Excellence Consultant to join our advisory team, focusing on maritime organizations. The role involves improving Integrated Management Systems (IMS), Quality (QMS), Safety (SMS), and Business Process Management (BPM).
The ideal candidate will have expertise in the ISM Code, ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001), and process improvement methods like Lean Six Sigma. Knowledge of maritime regulations and global compliance is essential. This role focuses on driving operational excellence, safety, and regulatory compliance in maritime operations.

The role:
- Support clients in identifying inefficiencies, streamlining processes, and implementing value-driven improvements to achieve optimized workflows and resource utilization.
- Facilitate process mapping exercises to identify bottlenecks, eliminate waste, and improve value delivery across maritime operations and supply chains.
- Conduct organizational assessments to evaluate structures, processes, and competencies, identifying areas for transformation to enhance efficiency and alignment with strategic goals.
- Provide guidance on organizational transformation initiatives, including change management, capability building, and cultural shifts, ensuring readiness to adapt to evolving regulatory, operational, and market demands.
- Advise on operational readiness frameworks, supporting the establishment of processes and practices that ensure the seamless deployment of new vessels, technologies, or systems while minimizing disruptions.
- Provide expertise in supply chain optimization, focusing on enhancing resilience, reducing costs, and improving the efficiency of procurement, logistics, and inventory management in the maritime context.
- Provide insights into Port State Control (PSC), Flag State Inspections (FSI), and other regulatory requirements, supporting the analysis of inspection performance trends and benchmarking SMS practices against industry leaders and standards.
- Support the development of operational procedures to address safety, quality assurance, and environmental management while enhancing documentation practices to ensure regulatory alignment and accessibility.
- Conduct digital maturity assessments and recommend advanced solutions, such as IoT, predictive analytics, and AI, to improve system performance.
- Support the development of digital strategies for real-time performance monitoring and regulatory reporting.
- Facilitate root cause analyses for maritime incidents and provide recommendations for systemic corrective measures while assisting with risk assessments and hazard analyses tailored to shipping operations.
- Support the design and delivery of training programs to enhance crew competency and ensure alignment with IMS procedures.
- Assist in establishing maritime-specific KPIs and monitoring frameworks to track IMS performance while recommending tools such as digital dashboards for improved data-driven decision-making and compliance oversight.
- Help clients develop structured frameworks to drive continuous improvement within IMS while maintaining compliance with maritime standards.
What you bring
- Minimum Engineering/bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university and master’s in management.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in maritime operations, business process management, operational excellence, or consulting roles within the shipping or maritime industry.
- Expertise with IMS, SMS, QMS, and other management systems within maritime organizations.
- Expertise in business process management methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, Kaizen, and value stream mapping for process improvement and operational efficiency.
- Experience in organizational assessment and transformation initiatives, including change management and capability building.
- Expertise in digital transformation initiatives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for conducting gap analyses, risk assessments, and root cause analyses.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead client presentations
- Strong project management skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Proficiency in the English Language with excellent writing skills
- Able to prioritize and work effectively under pressure.
- Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate issues and ideas effectively.
- Be flexible, adaptable, and prepared to take on new challenges and work from other LR or client office locations.
- Be highly self-motivated, possessing strong enthusiasm and commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes.
- Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills and able to review the work of others to ensure quality.
Preferred Skills but not Mandatory:
- Certifications in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) and ISO standards auditing (e.g., Lead Auditor).
- Familiarity with maritime-specific challenges and operational risks.
- Experience in developing and implementing advanced digital solutions, including cybersecurity measures.
- Knowledge of FSI and PSC requirements.
- Certification in relevant ISO standards auditing or IMS consultancy is highly desirable.
