The role
- Approve plans and perform structural analyses for lifting appliances, including independent calculations, and document them in compliance with the LR Code for Lifting Appliances in a Marine Environment and other relevant rules and standards. The role will primarily focus on approving the design of engine room cranes, hose handling and provision cranes, lifts, and other equipment used in the marine and offshore industry. However, it will also offer opportunities for personal development beyond these areas.
- Conduct assessments and offer specialized advice for service delivery, research, or development work within specified parameters, including budget and contractual requirements.
- Produce deliverables in a predefined format within agreed parameters.
- Assess and recommend the time and value of work to be undertaken for internal or external clients within an agreed fee or cost structure.
- Discuss and present deliverables to internal or external clients and suggest alternative solutions when appropriate.
- Carry out administrative tasks as required in accordance with current processes and procedures.
- Pursue Continuous Professional Development to maintain a high level of discipline, knowledge, and awareness.
- Assist in improving service delivery by communicating internal or external client feedback as necessary.
- Coach other employees and disseminate information to facilitate effective knowledge transfer and application.
- Conduct activities in accordance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
- Make suggestions to enhance service delivery effectiveness through changes to processes or work scope, aiming to reduce appraisal effort where possible.
What you bring
- A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
- Working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
- Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
- Proficiency in the structural aspects of lifting appliances and a good understanding of remaining aspects of lifting appliance systems.
- Proficiency in the use of commercial finite element software
