What we’re looking for 

 

  • We’re looking for a structural engineer to join our team in Mumbai, carrying out independent assessments and FEA calculations for general marine lifting appliances like engine room cranes, cargo cranes and other lifting gear.
  • You will evaluate a wide range of lifting equipment, and the designs must meet the LR Code for Lifting Appliances in a Marine Environment and/or relevant international standards.
  • You will approve client's drawings and documents against the applicable acceptance criteria. A strong background in structural engineering is essential, ideally supplemented by expertise in related machinery and control systems.

The role

 

  • Plan approval and structural analysis of lifting appliances including independent direct calculations and subsequent documentation in accordance with the LR Code for Lifting Appliances in a Marine Environment and other rules, codes and standards.
  • The focus of the role will be on design approval of engine room cranes, hose handling and provision cranes, lifts and other equipment used in the marine and offshore industry. The role will not be limited to those focus areas and opportunity for personal development will be given.
  • To produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in a defined format.
  • To assess / recommend the time / value of the work to be undertaken for an internal / external client within an agreed fee / cost structure.
  • To discuss / present the deliverable with the internal / external client and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
  • To coach other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.

What you bring 

 

  • A master’s degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme).
  • Ideally 8+ years of experience in structural analysis of lifting appliances.
  • Working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Proficiency in the structural aspects of lifting appliances and a good understanding of remaining aspects of lifting appliance systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of commercial finite element software
  • Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work
