What We're Looking For
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Systems Accountant to join our Maritime Finance Organisation, supporting the continued development and optimization of our global finance systems and processes.
Reporting to the General Ledger Global Process Owner, this role is ideal for a finance professional with strong systems expertise who enjoys combining accounting knowledge with process improvement, automation, and technology-driven solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and maintaining SAP Business ByDesign (ByD) and other finance systems, while helping to enhance financial controls, balance sheet integrity, and operational efficiency across the organization.
Working within a global environment, the role involves close collaboration with colleagues across multiple countries, Finance Shared Services, technology partners, and key stakeholders throughout Maritime Finance. The position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to finance transformation initiatives, automation projects, and continuous improvement programs while supporting the wider Record-to-Report (RTR) leadership agenda.

The Role
Key Responsibilities
Finance Systems & Process Support
-
Support and maintain SAP Business ByDesign (ByD) and other key finance systems, ensuring stable and efficient operation.
-
Run and monitor finance business processes in line with agreed timetables and operational requirements.
-
Support month-end close activities, including payroll journal postings, fixed asset accounting, revenue recognition, and resolution of finance transactions.

Act as a super user for General Ledger and Intercompany processes within ByD and other finance applications such as Adra.

Deliver user training and provide process guidance on General Ledger and related finance processes.
Process Improvement & Automation
-
Identify opportunities to improve finance systems, controls, and processes through automation and standardization.
-
Collaborate with technology partners, including Infosys, to develop and implement automation and AI-driven initiatives.
-
Support projects focused on improving efficiency, reducing manual effort, and enhancing financial reporting quality.
-
Contribute to the successful delivery of finance transformation initiatives from concept through implementation.
Balance Sheet Governance & Financial Control
-
Support ongoing improvements to balance sheet management through the reduction of aged and open items.
-
Help develop and implement automated balance sheet reconciliation and control processes.
-
Ensure balance sheet positions are reviewed, understood, and appropriately communicated to Maritime Finance stakeholders.

Work closely with the General Ledger team to identify risks, opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Reporting
-
Act as a key interface between Maritime Finance, the Statutory Compliance Team, General Ledger teams, and Finance Shared Services.

Support resolution of reporting, system, and process-related issues across finance operations.
-
Provide cover and support for management accounting processes as required.
-
Participate in RTR leadership initiatives and support governance, review, and approval activities across the function.
Audit & Compliance Support
-
Lead responses to internal and external audit queries relating to Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet movements.
-
Ensure audit responses are accurate, concise, well-supported, and appropriately reflect financial risks.
-
Maintain compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and financial reporting requirements.
-
Support continuous improvement of governance, control, and compliance processes.
What you bring
Experience
-
Experience in financial accounting, record-to-report (RTR), general ledger, or finance systems roles.
-
Experience working with ERP finance systems, preferably SAP Business ByDesign or similar cloud-based finance platforms.
-
Exposure to month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting processes.
-
Experience supporting finance process improvement, transformation, or automation initiatives.
-
Experience working within a shared services or global finance environment is advantageous.
-
Experience supporting audit activities and responding to auditor queries is desirable.
Technical Skills
-
Strong understanding of General Ledger, Intercompany, Fixed Assets, Revenue Recognition, and Balance Sheet processes.
-
Knowledge of finance systems administration and support.
-
Ability to identify process inefficiencies and develop practical improvement solutions.
-
Understanding of automation technologies, workflow tools, and AI-enabled finance solutions is beneficial.

Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related discipline.

Professional accounting qualification (CA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent) is preferred.

Additional qualifications or certifications in ERP systems, finance transformation, or process improvement would be advantageous.
