Role Purpose:

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Naval Surveyor on Development in September 2026. This developmental role is designed to build your expertise and confidence as a technical specialist through comprehensive training. It will allow the successful candidate to develop practical skills and knowledge under the guidance of experienced professionals.

You will have the opportunity to learn alongside a team of Lloyd’s Register Naval Surveyors acting on behalf of our customer to provide engineering assurance to new build and in service Naval Vessels.

Lloyd's Register is a leading provider of engineering services to the marine and offshore industries, helping clients design, construct, operate, extend and decommission their assets safely and in line with environmental expectations. LR have a particular need to develop engineers for the global Naval industry to survey vessels throughout the full life of design, build, in service and disposal.

 

Work Environment:

This position may involve you to work at height, in enclosed spaces and over water. The environment may also involve exposure to various materials and substances pertinent to the industry. All relevant training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understanding the design requirements of Naval Marine Vessels
  • Surveying vessels in construction and in maintenance to ensure design requirements are met
  • dealing with engineering enquiries from people face to face, on the phone and by email.
  • Delivering factual and accurate engineering reports to customer deadlines
  • Understanding engineering processes used during build and maintenance periods and the effects documentation has on the end product
  • Working with a team of engineers to achieve contracted deliverables ensuring the safety of life at sea.
  • Actively engage in on-the-job training to acquire a solid understanding, practices and techniques
  • Execute assigned tasks and responsibilities, progressively taking on more complex duties as skills are developed
  • Collaborate with experienced professionals and mentors to receive guidance and support with daily work activities
  • Prioritise safety in all aspects of work, following established safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Participate in classroom instruction and training sessions to supplement on-the-job learning and gain theoretical knowledge

 

 Required Qualifications:

  • A BEng degree, or equivalent qualification, from a tertiary institution recognized by Lloyd’s Register renowned in a relevant field of engineering.
  • Proficiency in the English language, including adeptness in report writing and preparing technical reports, suitable for the responsibilities of the role.
  • Strong desire to learn and develop skills in the Marine and Naval Industry
  • Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in MS Office

  • Acts with integrity, dignity and respect; is seen as a truthful individual; admits mistakes to get support from direct Manager as appropriate.
  • Work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.

 

Security Clearance:

  • Successful candidates must be able to achieve a UK security clearance.
