What we’re looking for

The LR Advisory group is seeking a qualified Engineer in compressible flows and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to join our experienced Explosion and Fluid Dynamics Team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Our Canadian advisory team is an established engineering research and consulting group specializing in the development and application of advanced engineering solutions for clients in the marine, public safety, and defense sectors.

The role

  • Work with a team of skilled engineers delivering innovative solutions to a range of client challenges, particularly in the areas of public safety, industry, and defence
  • Provide consultancy services in areas relating to structural response to highly dynamic events including explosive blast or ballistic impact using fluid structure interaction (FSI) and finite element analysis (FEA)
  • Provide consultancy services in areas relating to explosive blast, reactive flows, compressible-flow computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
  • Enable these services through development and application of models to be used in specialized in-house software tools
  • Develop and maintain internal CFD and FEA software using agreed upon code standards and associated processes
  • Contribute to, and prepare, technical reports and scientific publications
  • Build relationships with internal and external clients, be hands on in assessing complex problems, and help build the business
  • Participate in proposal development and provide estimates for own time
  • Take personal responsibility for delivering own goals and targets, without requiring significant supervision
  • Pursue continuous professional development while maintaining a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness. Take ownership of personal development, seeking opportunities for self-development
  • Maintain registration as an Engineer-in-Training or Registered/Licensed Professional Engineer with Engineers Nova Scotia or other Canadian professional engineering association

 

What you bring

  • Have a minimum of a Master’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace)
  • Demonstrated proficiency using numerical software for the analysis of structural response under highly dynamic loadings
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and application of FSI models to real-world problems
  • Experience in computer programming and FSI/CFD code development
  • Be eligible for Personal Security Clearance with the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate
  • Actively participate in our safety management system to ensure safe working conditions for you, your co-workers, our clients, and the general public

 

Preferred but not required

  • Demonstrated solid knowledge of fluid dynamics (compressible flows), thermodynamics, and chemistry
  • Demonstrated experience in the development/application compressible CFD models relating to reactive flows, explosions and blast physics
  • Experience using LS-DYNA or comparable FEA tools
  • Experience with machine learning (ML) algorithms and application of ML models.
  • Experience in the marine industry and ship hydrodynamics
  • Working knowledge of Linux OS and experience in parallel/scientific computing
  • Prior experience working in consulting and research organizations
