Employees at LR-ATG enjoy an intellectually challenging and collegial working environment with generous benefits and a corporate culture that places a strong emphasis on individual creativity and initiative.  We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Research Engineer in Risk and Reliability to join our experienced Structures and Risk Team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

 

Your duties will include:

  • Undertake technical investigations/ studies and consultancy services in the areas of risk assessment/ management, reliability analysis, marine, naval or security systems and operations with minimal supervision, develop technical reports and papers on studies undertaken, and perform peer review of other reports as may be required.
  • Lead/ participate in risk assessment workshops in support of design and operation of marine systems
  • Undertake frequency and consequence analysis for marine systems/ operations
  • Undertake evacuation simulations for ships and other marine systems
  • To coach other employees, as appropriate, and disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application
  • To conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards
  • To assist in service delivery improvement by communicating internal/external client feedback as appropriate
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintaining a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness

Key Skill requirements:

  • Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies, such as HAZIDs, HAZOPs, FMECA, Bowtie, QRA and RAM
  • Familiarity with risk analysis tools, such as PHA Pro, FTA, and ETA
  • Familiarity with marine evacuation simulation software (e.g.: maritimeEXODUS, or similar)
  • Basic knowledge of naval architecture, including finite element analysis of marine structures
  • Familiarity with the Lloyd’s Register Classification Rules, IMO codes, SOLAS, Transport Canada, CSA, IEC and ISO and other relevant standards used in the marine and offshore industries
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

You will have:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in naval architecture, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, marine engineering, or related field
  • At least six years’ experience in risk assessment/management, reliability analysis, marine, naval or security systems and operations. Candidates with advanced degrees will be considered with reduced number of years of experience, if their thesis work is directly related to any of the areas listed above.
  • A member of a professional engineering organization working towards achieving Professional, Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English language. Proficiency in another language such as French or Spanish will be considered an asset
  • Application for a Personal Security Clearance with the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) is required.
