The Role
As a Senior Human Factors Specialist, you will play a key role in delivering specialist expertise across client projects while contributing to the strategic direction of the Human Factors team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse, high-profile global projects across maritime and energy sectors, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and engaging directly with clients.
The position is ideally based in Southampton or Bristol (UK), Halifax (Canada), Miami (USA), or Dubai (UAE). However, we are open to hybrid or remote working arrangements from other locations.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Lead and support Human Factors projects, ensuring delivery to a high standard, on time and within budget
- Collaborate on multidisciplinary projects, integrating Human Factors expertise across technical teams
- Support the Team Lead in delivering departmental strategy and objectives
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, using feedback to enhance service offerings
- Identify and develop new business opportunities, supporting internal and external promotion
- Prepare technical proposals, including scope, cost estimates, and delivery timelines
- Ensure compliance with internal processes, regulatory requirements, and industry standards
- Maintain continuous professional development and industry awareness
- Coach and mentor team members, supporting capability development and knowledge sharing
- Participate in global projects, including international travel and onboard vessel work
What You Bring
Essential:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Human Factors Engineering, Psychology, or a related discipline, or maritime qualifications with relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship’s officer
- Direct client engagement and consultancy experience delivering tailored Human Factors solutions
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Human Factors specialist in one or more of the following:
- Human Factors Engineering / Ergonomic Assessments
- Human Reliability Assessments (HRA)
- Human-Centered Design
- Control Room / Working Environment Design
- Usability (GUI) and UX Assessments
- Safety / Organisational Culture Assessments
- Workload and Fatigue Management
- Experience working in a consultancy environment
- Strong knowledge of Human Factors methods, standards, and regulatory frameworks
- Experience in user research, interviews, usability testing, and data analysis
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills
- Strong report writing and presentation capabilities
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal)
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including offshore/vessel environments
- Fitness aligned with ENG1 (or equivalent) certification requirements
Desirable:
- Experience in Maritime, Oil & Gas, or Energy sectors
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., BPS, CIEHF)
- Project management experience
- Training delivery or workshop facilitation experience
- Eligibility for UK or Canada security clearance
