LR as one of the leading classification society providing classification, certification and consultancy services is looking for an experienced electrical engineer in the marine & offshore section.


The role of that position covers the following tasks:


  • review of electrical designs and/or concepts in accordance with international regulations (IMO, SOLAS, Safety Circulars), classification codes (LR specific Rules and Regulations), international/national standards (IEC, DIN, VDE) and performance codes/standards applicable for the marine and offshore world
  • support, observing and appraisal of different risk assessment techniques used for unconventional design and/or safety critical applications
  • certification of components and systems for our clients
  • highest technical support for class and consultancy work for our clients
  • working in a global environment with colleagues and clients
  • support commissioning and certification tasks in the field (at the manufacturer, on board of ships and on offshore units)
  • coaching of other colleagues and the openness for the own professional development
  • project coordination in Form of cost and time planning for new building and/or research projects


Your duties - ability to:


  • review, understand and approve of electrical plans, design-, and operational concepts
  • perform and be part of complex assessments
  • provide support within the global LR team
  • handle research projects on highest confidential agreements


Typical components and systems for appraisal are:


  • Propulsion Control Systems
  • Power Converter applications
  • AC and DC Distribution Systems
  • Short Circuit Calculations and Selectivity examinations
  • Hybrid Power Generation and Distribution Systems
  • Main and Emergency Sources of Power and Distributions
  • Integration of different types of Energy Storage Systems
  • Categorize Cyber Security Tasks
  • Analyze of different Communication Network topologies
  • Assess overall component and system Protection Philosophies
  • High and Low voltage power generation and distribution systems
  • Analysis and assess of programmable electronic systems


You need to have:


  • qualified degree of an electrical/control engineer
  • experience in the marine and/or offshore sector with regards to electrical systems
  • MUST have - fluent in German and English language
