What we are looking for

 

  • Lloyd's Register Marine and Offshore provide a wide range of services to industry world-wide involving design verification, independent analysis and consultancy activities in various disciplines, including those of naval architecture, structures, pipelines, geotechnics, safety and mechanical engineering.
  • We are looking to recruit a Senior Structural Specialist to join our LR Hamburg office and reporting to Fixed Structures Team Leader based in UK. This team has substantial experience in providing independent assurance for design and operational aspects of offshore and onshore structures for a range of industries including the renewable and oil and gas sectors.
  • Candidates must provide work authorization for Germany.

The Role 

 

  • Reporting to the Fixed Structures Team Leader, the key responsibilities are as follows:
  • Undertake design appraisal activities with respect to offshore structures including fixed, near shore and floating offshore steel structures (e.g Jacket, Topsides, subsea protections structures) for new built as well as in-service projects to ensure compliance with specified rules, codes, Regulations, standards and specifications within agreed parameters including budget and contractual requirements.
  • Ability to carry out self-directed modelling and analysis of offshore structures using standard FEA packages such as SACS, STAAD, USFOS etc.
  • To develop technically other employees, as appropriate, and share information to ensure effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • To contribute to the preparation of bids and tenders for offshore design appraisal projects.
  • To conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
  • Engage in relevant training to pursue continuing professional development.
  • Assist in development of technical guidance notes, technical work for papers to be presented at seminars and conferences, co-ordinate technology development projects within LR.

 

 

What you bring

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in the design of steel structures in an offshore environment with comprehensive experience in the design and analysis of offshore and onshore structures.
  • Good understanding of nonlinear analysis of offshore structures.
  • Good understanding of International regulatory regimes pertaining to design and operation of offshore structures such as offshore verification and certification regimes.
  • Experience in analysis and design of steel structures to international codes and standards (e.g. ISO , AISC, Eurocode etc.).
  • Experience in using and interpreting the output of appropriate engineering software such as STAAD.Pro, SACS, USFOS, ABAQUS, ANSYS etc.,
  • Effective communications in written and spoken English and German with the ability to prepare discuss and present deliverables to a client at a senior level.
  • Good communication skills (including technical report writing), the ability to work to tight deadlines and the ability to manage changing priorities.

          General Requirements:

  • Chartered Engineer and a member of a recognised professional body for example ICE, IStructE or IMAREST (or working towards). (or working towards).
  • Solid technical and analytical skills.
  • Experience with projects following the BSH standard.
  • Prior experience working with a reputed engineering contractor or engineering consultant.
