Lloyd’s Register North America, Inc. is part of the Lloyds Register Group, a premier independent classification society with global coverage.  We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Offshore Fire and Safety Engineer to join our experienced Technical Support Office in Houston, TX.  On-the-job training, under the guidance of a mentor, will be provided which will allow you to obtain competencies to carry out work independently.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • To carry out design appraisal of offshore industry fire and safety arrangements and systems against Codes and Standards and Regulations in respect of grassroots and modifications projects within agreed parameters that includes budget constraints and contractual requirements
  • To provide sound technical and Regulatory guidance to clients during the design and construction phase and participate in meetings or workshops where required. The work may require occasional travel
  • To pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness
  • To conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • An engineering focused degree from a higher-education institution
  • Minimum of five years relevant Fire and Safety engineering experience, ideally in the offshore industry
  • Knowledge of active and passive fire protection, lifesaving appliances, fire and gas detection and alarm systems, safety communication systems, escape and evacuation and rescue, fire and safety risk assessments, emergency lighting, hazardous areas and gas ingress protection, emergency shutdown systems, as well as associated offshore industry Fire and Safety Codes and Standards and practices such as NFPA, etc.
  • Knowledge of the offshore Regulatory regimes, including the classification process and IMO
  • Knowledge of SOLAS and other international Regulations (e.g. FTP Code, FSS Code, LSA Code,) and statutory Codes as applicable to offshore floating units is an asset

 

You will have:

 

  • Experience with offshore industry Fire and Safety Codes and Standards and Regulatory frameworks
  • Membership or working towards obtaining professional designation such as PE or CEng with ability to work in accordance with professional codes of conduct
  • Good technical and commercial management skills and knowledge, e.g. project management
  • To demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and initiative
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English skills.  Second language Spanish would be an asset
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office including 365, SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat

 

Applicants will be required to undergo pre‐employment testing including medical assessment.
