Job Description:              

To undertake third-party Design Appraisal services for electrical systems relating to Certification, Verification, Classification, Type Approval, and other third-party activities in accordance with related industry Codes and Standards as well as LR Classification Rules and Regulations, and any other applicable references. Working with a global team of engineers, field surveyors, and clients to propose innovative solutions to problems, and advise on the time and cost of work involved. Continuous focus on professional development, actively seeking out opportunities to enhance expertise and keep skills fully up-to-date.


Job duties will include:

  • Ability to perform assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, and research or development work within agreed parameters such as budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • To apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate and maintain engineering products, processes, systems and services.
  • To disseminate information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • To discuss/present the deliverable with internal and external clients and suggesting alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • To conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • To assist in service delivery improvement by communicating internal/external client feedback as appropriate.
  • To undertake project management where applicable including monitoring project progress and spend against budget and contract requirements.


Key Skill requirements:

  • Experience in the design of Offshore Electrical systems.
  • Worked with the offshore industry Electrical Codes and Standards such as IEC 61892, IEC 61439, IEC 60092,  IEC 60079, etc. and familiar with the Classification Rules used in the offshore industry.
  • Knowledge and experience of Power Generation Systems engineering design (Main, Essential, Emergency); Energy Storage Systems (ESS), Power System Protection; Power Supply & Distribution Systems; Switching Equipment; Converting Equipment – Transformers; Electrical Cables and Busbar Trunking Systems (Busways); Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs); Navaid System; High Voltage and Low Voltage Systems; Switchgears and Control Gear Assemblies; Rotating Machines; Switching Equipment; Electrical Equipment for Heating, Lighting, and Accessories; Electric Trace Heating; Underwater Electrical Systems; Refrigeration; Micro Grid Distribution System; PLC and Embedded Systems; Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas.
  • Good knowledge of the Regulatory Regimes, including the Classification process and IMO Conventions / Codes, and Flag Administration Regulations.
  • Experience in a shipyard, offshore/marine consultancy, or Classification Society in Electrical Systems engineering design will be an advantage.
  • Possess flexible attitude, effective interpersonal skills, strong analytical skills, and can provide technical, commercial, and people communications.
  • Proficiency in English Language commensurate with the work and have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess excellent computer skills.


You will have:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Electrical engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in a related Electrical Engineering area.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution with Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) or similar designation, or eligible and working towards such PE / CEng status
