Role Summary:

As Plan Approval & Helpdesk Specialist you will perform assessments and support internal and external clients providing solutions to problems as part of your scope in Marine & Offshore area.

You will also assess the design, production and in-service aspects of engineering assets, using procedures, expertise and knowledge towards ensuring high quality deliverables.

Main Responsibilities:

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that the plan approval specialist function and maintain necessary work & communication with Turkish Flag Administration in the areas where/when required in line with this function
  • Ensure that the plan approval specialist function is in line with Turkish Flag Administration’s RO co-operation agreement in place.
  • Respond effectively to customer needs and queries contributing to the successful resolution of the marine in-service help desk cases.
  • Identify customer requirements operating as an truster advisor, analyse requirements based on business needs and identify appropriate responses.
  • Build working relationships with Marine Business Manager, Operations Manager and New Building Projects Manager to ensure successful service delivery and effective query management.
  • Act as a liaison between Marine Operations Dept. and Technical Support Offices to align replies to queries related to plan approval issues.
  • Support LR Site Project Managers by ensuring co-ordination between TSO’s and LR Site PM’s by following the plan approval status of each project.
  • Ensure TSO co-ordination between LR TSO’s and Shipyards (Designers) for ongoing projects.
  • Participate in bidding process by providing technical support from plan approval aspect to business development teams during negotiations.
  • Respond to maritime existing clients’ and shipyards’ daily queries/questions 
  • Provide up-to-date information about the forthcoming new regulations to LR customers and business partners was required
  • Facilitate the collaboration with designers & shipyard design managers and industry players by speaking the same engineering language.
  • Perform assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed parameters that includes budget constraints and contractual requirements.
  • Produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in a defined format.
  • Assess, recommend the time, value the work to be undertaken for an internal or external client within an agreed fee or cost structure.
  • Present the deliverable with the internal or external clients and suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
  • Assist in service delivery improvement by communicating to internal or external clients feedback as appropriate.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Make suggestions to improve service delivery effectiveness through changes to processes or work scope such that it leads to a reduction in appraisal effort (where applicable)
  • Promote LR services and products to be supported by physical client visits.
  • Represent LR in external events as presenter as required for the promotion of LR services and products.

Key Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Eliminate or minimise employee's exposure to risks by reviewing, regularly, the health and safety risk register, applying appropriate controls, communicating results of risk assessment and ensuring health and safety is considered in the planning and execution of all LR activities.
  • Assess the risks and ensure working in a safe manner at all times, robustly implementing health and safety rules, instructions and systems and refuse to undertake work that compromises safety or health standards for yourself or others.
  • Report in a timely manner all incidents including near miss and safety observations (NMSO), accidents and injuries and raise any health and safety concerns to your line manager. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree from Naval Architect and Marine Engineering divisions of Technical Universities
  • Approximately (5) five years of previous experience having Naval Architecture background in design office and/or classification society plan approval surveyor experience
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Understanding of Marine processes and project management.
  • Knowledge in the ship segments and products / services identified by Lloyd’s Register.
  • Fluent language proficiency in English and Turkish in both writing and speaking
  • Knowledge of classification Rules and Regulations, IACS requirements, SOLAS and IMO Resolutions
