HSES Specialist, Southeast Asia & Australasia 

Lloyd’s Register or LROneOcean 

 

Location: Malaysia / Indonesia preferred

As part of this role, you will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to effectively implement the HSES Strategy and Management System for the geography of responsibility. You will also effectively engage with innovative HSES programs and drive best practices to improve the HSES culture.

The role : 

 

Training & Competency 

  • Plan, deliver, monitor HSES related training and maintain records in the Learning Management System 

  • Periodically assess and evaluate external practical training providers and identify new ones where necessary 

  • Pursue continual professional development and maintain high level of HSES knowledge and awareness 

 

Performance Reporting & Assurance 

  • Monitor, review and report HSES performance to key stakeholders regularly 

  • Conduct trend analysis, identify areas of concern and implement improvement actions 

  • Provide HSES support for project tenders, audit assurance process and associated actions 

 

Effective Communication and Collaboration 

  • Ensure all HSES matters are regularly and effectively communicated with internal and external key stakeholders 

  • Plan, facilitate and conduct regular HSES events / visits to continually engage the workforce and external clients  

  • Support the business streams with appropriate advice and guidance to mitigate operational HSES challenges 

 

Incident Reporting & Investigation  

  • Report all incidents in a timely manner, escalate any concerns to Line Management and share best practices 

  • Support the business streams to maintain a healthy and proactive reporting culture among all staff 

  • Conduct and complete investigations in a timely manner and report findings to key stakeholders 

 

Continuous Improvement & Innovation 

  • Introduce new thinking and approaches to improve current HSES processes 

  • Innovate and trial new technologies to simplify and improve efficiency of existing systems 

  • Collaborate with the HSES Team and other stakeholders to execute HSES improvement projects 

 

Emergency Management & Business Resilience 

  • Manage the emergency response communication systems and applications for travellers and employees 

  • Support the business resilience contingencies in collaboration with key stakeholders and test for readiness.  

  • Support the HSES team members in their absence and respond to HSES incidents or other emergencies. 

 

Operational Control of HSES Risks 

  • Always assess the risks, work in a safe manner and apply the S.T.O.P principle in unsafe situations. 

  • Ensure that findings related to inspections and audit are managed towards prevention of recurrences 

  • Support the deviation process, review of HSES Risk & Opportunities register and self-assessment process 

  • Ensure that PPE suppliers are identified in all locations and support the local teams with evaluation of PPEs  

  • Ensure that regulatory requirements are periodically monitored, updated in the legal register and communicated 

 

What you bring  

 

  • Degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or relevant field 

  • Previous relevant experience into HSE scope conducting analysis, update of relevant of HSE project documentation 

  • Experience in EPC or Marine or Oil & gas industry is highly preferred. 

  • HSE knowledge and regulatory requirements related to geography of responsibility 

  • Strong cultural sensitivity, interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural environment 

  • Proven experience in developing solutions to HSES challenges and assisting operations with implementation 

  • Proven experience of effectively driving and successfully implementing HSES programs in high-risk industries. 

 

Preferred but not required: 

NEBOSH IGC or equivalent, along with membership of a relevant professional body is preferred

  • Responds positively to learning opportunities and is comfortable stepping out of own comfort zone 

  • Is willing to accommodate travelling up to 30% of time 

 

What you Bring

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution (I. Eng or equivalent)
  • Working towards or achieving charted or incorporated engineering status
  • To work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01
  • To use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to optimise the application of existing and emerging technology
  • To be able to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to the analysis and solution of engineering problems
  • To provide technical and commercial leadership within the responsibilities assigned.
  • Ability to obtain the required security clearances
  • Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work
