The role

Do you enjoy technically challenging software development which pushes your skills to the limit?

Do you welcome exposure to a wide range of technologies?

Would you like to work for an employer that puts security before deadlines, and gives you space the learn the skills that you need?

Are you looking for a career path which allows you to maintain and deepen your technical expertise?

Nettitude is looking to recruit a Senior Developer to work within its Research & Innovation Department developing bespoke security-related software for internal use and client facing applications. The key areas of responsibility will include:

  • Providing technical leadership for key software development projects within Nettitude

  • Acting as a source of technical expertise, providing advise and guidance to other developers

  • Helping to ensure the quality, and above all the security, of software developed by Nettitude

Skills and experience

Essential skills and experience include:

  • A high level of technical expertise, supported by problem solving and research skills

  • Good judgement with respect to solution identification, and both high- and low-level design

  • The skill to foresee and avoid pitfalls, in both their own work and when reviewing the work of others

  • Aptitude for understanding and interpreting client needs

We would also be looking for advanced skills in at least some of the technologies commonly used in Nettitude projects:

  • ReactJS and/or NodeJS

  • JavaScript

  • Python

  • ElasticSearch (or other NoSQL databases)

Experience or awareness of the following would also be desirable (but none are essential):

  • IT security concepts and practices

  • Artificial intelligence / machine learning

  • Low-level IP networking

Responsibilities

Typical software projects in the R&I department range from straightforward web portals and dashboards, through to innovative and challenging security-related software for purposes such as:

  • Network intrusion detection

  • Penetration testing

  • Malware analysis

To achieve this the development team is supported by our research staff, and by other security professionals within Nettitude. Nevertheless, it is common for the development team to be presented with tasks for which the solution is non-obvious, or which requires the use of unfamiliar tools or techniques. An aptitude for learning and problem solving will therefore be needed to successfully deliver this role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering all stages of the software development lifecycle, from requirements capture through to release and maintenance

  • Acting as a source of technical expertise, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and quality assurance capability for projects throughout Nettitude

  • Helping to set the technical direction of the department

Nettitude is looking to enhance the maturity of its development processes, reflecting a change of emphasis from early-stage research to development of production-ready software, however in doing this we will be seeking to preserve the lean and agile nature of our working practices thus far.

What we offer

We offer an exciting working environment with intellectual challenges, responsibility, and the opportunity to be involved with state-of-the-art cybersecurity research and development. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the right candidate.

Every person who works with us can expect:

  • To be a valued member of an inclusive, supportive and high performing team.

  • To be part of an exciting environment that presents continuous intellectual challenges.

  • Competitive and regularly reviewed remuneration.

  • Career development opportunities in a multitude of directions and with our utmost support.

The role will typically involve travelling into our Leamington Spa office up to once or twice per week, depending on business need. It can otherwise be home- or office-based at your preference.

If you believe there’s a mutual fit then we’d love to hear from you.
