Role Purpose

The role is within the Programmes Team at the Foundation which is responsible for much of the grant funding supported by the organisation. The Programme Manager will be responsible for several of the ongoing grant funding schemes and work with colleagues within the team to deliver a wide variety of grant and direct charitable activities. 

 

We are advertising for a Programme Manager and a Senior Programme Manager, we would expect to appoint to either one of these roles someone who has a technical understanding of the work that the Foundation funds and therefore request an education or significant experience of working in science, engineering or technology areas. 

 

The role will also work across the Foundation to deliver the charitable purpose of the Foundation, to enhance safety of life and property and advance public education. The role will need to work with relevant teams and Directors to focus on the successful delivery of internal and external charitable and grant funded activities. 

 

The Programme Manager will build strong relationships with external stakeholders such as grant awardees, applicants and colleagues within Lloyd’s Register Group.   

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the successful delivery of recurring grant funding schemes  
  • Responsible for the successful delivery of a range of portfolios of programmes and projects delivered within budget, to time and consistent with commitments to funders and agreed targets  
  • Work across the Foundation’s teams to deliver expertise and knowledge on funding programmes 
  • Aid in the development of proposals with support from the Foundation Directors as and when required 
  • Work with others to develop new proposals and work with applicants to ensure ongoing success of programmes 
  • Coordinate with experts within Lloyd’s Register Group to maximise impact of funded activity 
  • Contribute, as required, to the development of evidence-based positions on research and innovation policy issues linked to schemes 
  • Ensure relevant databases are kept up to date, reports are submitted on time, assess the reports for compliance with the contract and funded proposal, arrange peer review  
  • Review and acceptance of reports ensuring that all contractual requirements are met in full 
  • Build relationships with community in receipt of Foundation support and wider stakeholders 
  • Assess proposed changes in contract and recommend appropriate action 
  • Providing updates and content for newsletters, website, press releases and social media 
  • Organising meetings, workshops and conferences, developing agendas and presentations, taking minutes and producing reports 
  • Identify opportunities that arise from grant and direct charitable activities and develop partnerships with other funders 
  • Raise awareness and actively educate the public about the work of the Foundation 
  • Adhere to the principles, methods, techniques and tools for the effective management and administration of programmes and project lifecycles  

 

Job Requirements

  • Some experience of grant management in a research and/or educational context 
  • Strong analytical skills, be highly organised, good attention to detail with excellent time management skills 
  • Demonstrable experience of adhering to principles, methods, techniques and tools for the effective management and administration of programmes and project lifecycles 
  • Able to demonstrate experience of &/or training in project, programme or portfolio management 
  • Experience of working with technical and engineering communities of practice (desirable) 
  • Educated to degree level or above (desirable) 
  • Knowledge of the charity sector (desirable) 
  • Experience of working across international partnerships (desirable)
