Job Title:             Project Delivery Lead, Digital Innovation

Location:             London, United Kingdom

Role Type:           Permanent

Start date:           From January 2022

Role overview:

Lloyd’s Register is a global professional services company specialising in engineering and technology for the maritime industry. For over 260 years Lloyd’s Register had been guiding some of the largest companies in the world, working with clients every day and gaining unique insights into their issues, challenges and opportunities. And now we are applying that deep expertise of assets, processes, safety and regulation to the digital domain, developing market-leading, innovative solutions for our clients.

We are recruiting a Project Delivery Lead to join our Safety & Risk innovation team. The primary responsibility of the role will be to manage the successful delivery of a portfolio of client-facing projects involving machine learning and software application development. The portfolio will encompass both established innovation products, as well as new product and service innovation, working with and for our clients.

What will I be doing?

  • Plan, shape and implement our project delivery programme; ensure the effective resourcing of our delivery activities to meet clients’ and internal deadlines and quality
  • Repeatedly deliver pilot projects to expectations; this will involve working collaboratively with in-house development and data science resources, as well as partnerships and external sub-contractors
  • Work closely with our data science team to help scope and validate new machine learning models, and to iterate and improve existing; understand and communicate how these models can be embedded in our products to provide new and insightful features that add value for our clients
  • Take hands-on and personal delivery responsibility for a set of client-facing product deployments: running requirements workshops, performing data analysis and mapping, and configuring applications to meet client requirements
  • Provide pre-sales support to the business development team; attending and contributing to client pitches and demonstrations; building strong and trusted relationships with our key clients and development partners
  • Work with product management and the wider team to jointly scope and prioritise product roadmaps and feature development, to help shape the direction of our portfolio in line with value delivered to our customers
  • Apply programme level control of schedule, scope and spend for projects – including preparing and managing of individual project budgets, plus financial tracking for the overall portfolio. Regular communication with the finance team on invoicing, financial tracking and reporting will be required, as well as project status reporting.

What are we looking for?

Knowledge and experience

  • Track record of managing multiple digital projects in parallel – particularly addressing the challenges associated with delivering a portfolio of fast-paced digital product and service innovations
  • Direct experience and recent track record of innovation using data and digital technologies, especially involving machine learning and data science techniques.
  • Well versed in PMO and project tracking tools and techniques; able to report accurately on delivery portfolio status, and identify issues or resource constraints that may need escalation.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a sufficient level of hands-on technical knowledge and ability: the jobholder must be comfortable leading technical discussions with development and data science teams, be able to understand and help shape data schemas and application architectures, and jointly reach and own decisions on best-fit technical solutions.
  • Able to communicate and succinctly present technical concepts to a wide variety of both technical and non-technical audiences, helping guide prioritisation and decision making.
  • Experienced in supporting sales activity, eg running product demonstrations and client presentations.

Personal qualities

  • Strong interpersonal, stakeholder and client management skills, and the ability to operate effectively in an uncertain, innovation-rich environment
  • Enjoys working in a small, entrepreneurial and dynamic team comprising an organisational blend of permanent staff and specialist external contractors.
  • A natural problem solver who takes a hands-on approach and enjoys personal responsibility for delivery
