Working as part of the LR Architecture Team, the Senior Solution Architect is responsible for ensuring that high level designs deliver the business value expected, improves customer experience, aligns to the target architecture, and are optimised to facilitate future change.

The Solution Architect also needs to ensure that subsequent low-level design work and challenges remain aligned to the high-level design. This could cover hands on PoC work through to architectural governance and oversight across the output from vendor led initiatives.

A Solution Architect within LR is a dynamic role and you should expect to be assigned to either a Product or Platform domain based on where strategic investment is being focused at the time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand business drivers and business capabilities (current & future state) and determine corresponding solution designs and change requirements to achieve business outcomes.
  • Challenging business requirements and identifying and mitigating architectural significant risks.
  • Design and lead the implementation of a solutions architecture across a group of specific business applications or technologies based on LR’s business strategy, capabilities, and requirements, using approaches such as Service Blueprinting or similar modelling techniques.
  • Work with partners and vendors to ensure their design work, high level, detailed designs, and implementations are aligned with the overall Enterprise Architecture.
  • Understand how technology trends and the practical application of existing, and emerging technologies can evolve business and operating models.
  • Advocate, and embed the LR Guiding Principles of the IS Strategic Vision.
  • Define and ensure adherence to product and platform architectural guardrails.
  • Contribute to the continuous evolution and improvement of Solution Architecture and standards at LR including principles, guidelines, standards, and solution patterns to ensure initiatives are aligned with LR’s target architecture vision.
  • Design and direct the governance activities associated with ensuring solutions architecture assurance governance and compliance oversight.
  • Ensure all solution architecture design and analysis work is documented.
  • Support the evaluation and selection of software products and services, as well as the design of standard and custom software configurations.
  • Ensure initiatives fit systems or infrastructure to architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify product and platform priorities to accommodate the solutions architecture.

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years of design and implementation experience as a Solution Architect, within large and complex digital transformation projects and products.
  • Experience of Agile application development, domain driven design, commercial off-the-shelf software,  application programming interfaces (APIs), middleware, servers and storage, and database management.
  • Have exposure to multiple/diverse technologies and new and emerging technology trends, and their practical application.
  • Experience of LR strategic technologies (or similar), such as API Management (e.g. Azure, AWS), CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce Lightning), Finance Systems (SAP ByDesign), Integration (e.g. Boomi), Low Code (e.g. OutSystems & PowerApps).
  • Be results-oriented and customer-focused, able to demonstrate good inter-personal skills at all levels of contact and in a wide variety of situations, able to communicate and influence at all levels and in a globally diverse business.
  • Experience through your career as the architect responsible for breaking down monoliths into discrete services or working as a solution architect implementing solutions into multiple complex environments. This combined with earlier experience (e.g. hands on development, or implementing SOA based services) should allow an instinctive ability to segregate solutions into discrete reusable building blocks.
  • Be educated to bachelor degree level or related study or equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience of Low Code (preferably OutSystems) and Azure capabilities (e.g. APIM, Cosmos Db, Azure SQL, DevOps).
  • Experience of architecting cloud-based engineering tooling solutions desirable, including CAD, 3D, calculation, design, and simulation.
  • Marine and/or mathematical background an advantage. Specifically wave analysis, spectral analysis, seakeeping, FEA and fatigue analysis and statistical skills.
