Lloyds Register require an experienced Marine Control and Automation Engineer who is capable of working independently and part of a team of multi discipline engineers. You will be part of a team supporting key clients in the Maritime Industry both in the UK and globally.

 

The Role:

  • The work involves design appraisal of a wide range of projects on both Greenfield and Brownfield sites, primarily in the Marine business, Defence sector and Offshore industry.
  • Undertake design appraisal work consisting of compliance engineering activities for Classification against LR Rules and Certification against Codes and Standards such as IEC, API etc.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to Lloyds Register internal and external stakeholders in the following areas:
    • Design of Control Systems, Sensoring and Instrumentation for Unattended Installations, and the Remote control of Ships, Unmanned Craft and Unmanned Submersibles
    • Design of Integrated Systems, Control Networks and Safety Instrumented Systems.
    • Process Hazard Analysis techniques, Layers of Protection Analysis and Functional Safety Management and the associated standards for the assessment of complex software-based systems.
    • Safety requirements specification, the design of engineering hardware & software requirements and the assessment of safety critical software.
    • Navigation, Navaids and Telecommunication Systems as used in the Marine and Offshore Industries
    • Standards and techniques applicable for Electrical Equipment intended for safe use in explosive gas atmospheres and in the presence of combustible dusts would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Power Systems in the Marine Environment would be an advantage.  

 

You will be:

  • Degree qualified and a member of a professional body, with an accreditation from one of the recognised institutions such as the IET, InstMC or the Energy Institute.
  • You will come from a design background, preferably with field operations experience. You will have expertise across a wide range of Electronic Components and Systems.
  • A Control Engineer with Design experience and ideally, knowledge of classification society activities.
  • Have a good general level of knowledge and expert level knowledge in some areas of Electronic Controls at Technical Authority level and it is intended that they would be able to act as TA for LR within a brief period. The ability to represent LR in client meetings at the TA level is also required.
  • To be self-motivated, able to communicate with people at a wide variety of levels from graduates to senior management level.
  • Applicants must be proficient in the English language commensurate with the work, have UK residency and a work permit for the UK.
