What We’re Looking For

To drive the commercial development of the Lloyd’s Register Advisory business in the Americas, with a focus on maritime decarbonization, the energy transition and digital transformation for the commercial shipping and offshore energy industries. Build on existing relationships with key clients such as cruise lines, energy majors and key shipowners and charterers to develop a pipeline of diversified advisory services which build on LR’s technical competence and consultancy expertise. Work to upskill the wider LR Commercial team of ten individuals spread from Canada to Argentina to originate, qualify, develop and close advisory opportunities. This role will work closely with the Advisory Discipline Leads to create cross-functional project teams to meet client challenges, as well as act as a client engagement manager.

More broadly, the role will coordinate a go-to-market strategy for the LR Advisory team, with a focus on account-based marketing for key clients, as well as working with the Marketing department to develop coordinated campaigns to drive interest in the value propositions.

The role

  • To lead the development and go-to-market strategy of the Lloyd’s Register Advisory business, coordinating Advisory activities and initiatives
  • Work with the six Advisory Discipline Leads to develop tailored go-to-market strategies for each Discipline in the Americas (noting that the Marine Applied Technologies and Human Systems Discipline Lead is based in Canada and has a wider business development remit)
  • Work closely with Lloyd’s Register’s existing commercial structure in the Americas (consisting of the Regional Commercial Lead, Strategic Business Partners and Maritime Sales colleagues) to develop client relationships and Advisory sales. To work with LR commercial colleagues across the Americas to upskill them in originating, qualifying, developing and closing Advisory projects, whilst taking a hands-on role in originating and closing key projects
  • To ensure proper support is provided to the Americas Advisory business in terms of LR C-Suite client visits, marketing support, thought leadership etc.
  • To develop key client relationships independent of the existing LR structure, with a focus on developing interactions both with departments of large clients such as cruise liners or energy majors currently not served by LR, and other maritime stakeholders such as ports, fuel producers and national or regional jurisdictions.  
  • To coordinate the appropriate resources and expertise for project delivery, consisting of Advisory Disciplines, Technical Support, Service Delivery and other key internal stakeholders.
  • Together with the Advisory Leadership Team, develop an integrated strategy for developing business in the Americas, incorporating recruitment and resourcing, integration with the LR Classification business, relationship development, exec engagement and others..
  • To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
  • To provide on the ground support to large consulting engagements, including working directly with clients.
  • Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
  • To assist improvement in service delivery by communicating clients feedback as appropriate.
  • To mentor/coach team members, as appropriate, to build capacity, capability and support networks to effectively leverage knowledge transfer and application.
  • To provide pastoral support to the America’s Advisory team to support individuals in meeting their potential, as well as recruitment, performance management, talent/succession planning, training and development to build and sustain a high performance culture
  • Responsible for encouraging a consultative selling mindset across all LR employees in the Americas, including Advisory colleagues, LR commercial colleagues and the wider LR community
  • To conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
  • To contribute to client management as appropriate by acting as point of contact to effectively manage client and LR relationships.
  • To work with the consulting team to ensure findings are communicated in a manner that is accessible to the end user and which is visually in keeping with a quality consulting deliverable.

Key Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Eliminate or minimise employee's exposure to risks by reviewing, regularly, the health and safety risk register, applying appropriate controls, communicating results of risk assessment and ensuring health and safety is considered in the planning and execution of all LR activities.
  • Manage your own and your team's compliance with health and safety rules, instructions, systems and legal requirements, ensuring employees are suitably trained and adequate resources are available to work safely.
  • Monitor and review health and safety performance, observe safety behaviours in the workplace, taking appropriate corrective and preventative action as necessary and suggesting and implementing improvement activities.


What You Bring

  • Relevant degree from a recognised university or equivalent.
  • Eight years' experience working in consultancy
  • Proven ability to develop business in a professional services environment
  • Relevant consultancy experience in one of decarbonisation, procurement/supply chain analysis, digitalisation or strategy preferred
  • Strong knowledge and experience in business analysis
  • Highly effective written/verbal communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across all levels
  • Experience of working across global teams and cultures
