What we’re looking for

We are seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Floating Structures and Mooring Lead Specialist within the Offshore Floating Structures and Mooring team, a part of the Global Technical Support Office.

As an integral member of a dedicated and compact team, you will primarily focus on both new and existing offshore floating structures, encompassing various types such as ship-shaped vessels, semi-submersibles, jack-ups, and other floating assets. While the role is centered around offshore floating structures, having knowledge in moorings and hydrodynamics would be highly advantageous. Your responsibilities will involve providing design appraisal, support, and addressing a diverse array of intricate technical inquiries to aid local and global clients and surveyors.

This role presents opportunities for ongoing professional development through access to a variety of training programs. Working at Lloyd's Register, you will collaborate with numerous other departments, including plan approval, software, and consultancy, further enhancing your experience and expertise.

 What we offer you

  • Competitive Salary
  • The opportunity to work for an organization that has a strong sense of purpose, is values driven and helps colleagues to develop professionally and personally through our range of people development programmes.

The role

  • As a senior member of the Offshore Floating Structures and Mooring team, conduct design appraisal and consultancy in alignment with a range of Class Rules and statutory/industry codes. While your primary focus will be on offshore projects, there may be occasional involvement in marine ship type approval work as needed by the business.
  • Take the lead in evaluating intricate structural challenges through direct calculations and the application of LR's Rules and Regulations, as well as other international standards and codes, within your technical role.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop fellow employees as appropriate, fostering effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • Provide specialized technical guidance to internal and external clients globally, particularly at a senior level. This involves interactions with designers, shipyards, fellow LR surveyors, and specialists.
  • Contribute to technology development projects and Proposals to ensure the ongoing relevance of our Rules and their alignment with the latest industry advancements.
  • Play a role in the bid and win processes for new projects by accurately estimating time requirements and formulating scopes of work.
  • Generate deliverables within agreed-upon broad parameters and suitable formats, while also reviewing the work of other team members upon request.
  • Present and discuss deliverables with internal and external clients up to senior levels, offering alternative solutions as needed.
  • Actively seek to ensure client satisfaction and identify potential new opportunities with our clients.
  • Leverage feedback from internal and external clients to make recommendations that contribute to service delivery improvement and the growth of the business.
  • Note that the job description provided above does not exclude the possibility of being assigned other duties by the Manager of Offshore Structures or your line manager.

What you bring

  • A degree in naval architecture, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, or an equivalent qualification from a tertiary organization recognized by Lloyd's Register.
  • Practical experience in structural design and the practical application of Class Rules to the planning and construction of offshore assets. If you also possess experience in mooring approval and hydrodynamic analysis, it is an additional advantage.
  • Proficiency in performing finite element analysis, including the evaluation of fatigue.
  • Membership in a suitable professional institution, accompanied by Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Proficiency in the English language, both in written and oral communication, that is well-aligned with the demands of the role. Your ability to compose detailed technical reports and design appraisal documents is essential.
  • A solid comprehension of the responsibilities associated with a Classification Society, and an awareness of the interaction between Class Rules and Statutory Regulations.
