Role purpose:

 

To assess the design, manufacture and in-service aspects of engineering assets, using defined Codes, Standards, specifications, procedures, and knowledge and experience appropriate for complex / demanding situations. This role may also include managing projects.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • To perform complex assessments, provide specialist advice/solution and training to internal/external clients, research or development work within agreed parameters including budget and contractual requirements.
  • To produce the deliverable within the agreed parameters in an appropriate format and take responsibility to review other employees' work as requested.
  • To pursue Continuing Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • To assess/recommend the time/value of work to be undertaken for an external client within an agreed fee/cost structure within the commercial aspect of the contract, and issue quotations up to an agreed limit and Lloyds Register’s standard terms and conditions (e.g. commercial notice).
  • To discuss/present the deliverable with internal/external client at a senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate. Undertake administration as required in line with the current processes and procedures.
  • To assist improvement in service delivery by making recommendations based on internal/external client feedback and to help building the business.
  • To develop technically other employees, as appropriate and share information to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
  • To conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
  • To contribute to internal/external client management as appropriate by acting as point of contact to effectively manage client and LR relationships.
  • To undertake project management where applicable including monitoring project performance against budget and contract requirements.

 

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:-

 

  • Shall possess a relevant Bachelor's degree from a recognised university or equivalent.
  • An additional higher degree e.g. Masters may be preferred.
  • Shall possess sufficient relevant previous working experience to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the relevant specialist requirements, knowledge and application.
  • Likely to have 6-10 years relevant working experience.
  • Experience in design /appraisal of cranes and associated aspects.
  • Essential to have knowledge of application of appropriate national/international standards crane standards and other national/international standards covering the specific crane type
  • Shall understand the characteristics of the cranes/equipment, its operating environment and purpose
  • Proficiency in the use of FEA and calculation software
  • Effective Interpersonal skills including communication and reporting in English at all levels
  • Proficiency in MS office is essential.
