What we’re looking for 


We are looking for experienced Metallurgist or Material Engineering professionals to be part of our Metallurgy team, a small, specialized group proficient in metallurgy, materials manufacturing, materials engineering, welding, non-destructive examination, composites, and coatings. Your role entails certifying processes, manufacturers, and products. Additionally, you will offer worldwide assistance to both internal and external clients throughout design appraisal and fabrication activities.


You will also play a role in crafting new Rules and protocols, overseeing and evaluating research related to emerging materials technologies, and conducting training sessions.

The role 


  • Conducting intricate assessments and offering specialized guidance for tasks related to service provision, research, or developmental undertakings. These tasks fall within established wide-ranging parameters encompassing budgetary limitations and contractual obligations.
  • Creating the deliverables in an appropriate format, adhering to the established broad parameters, and taking on the responsibility of reviewing the work of other colleagues when requested.
  • Engaging in discussions or presentations with internal or external clients at a senior level, and when necessary, proposing alternative solutions.
  • Performing administrative tasks as needed, following current processes and procedures.
  • Evaluating and recommending the appropriate time and value for work intended for internal or external clients, all within an agreed-upon fee or cost framework and in alignment with the contractual commercial aspects.
  • Offering suggestions derived from feedback provided by internal or external clients to enhance service delivery and contribute to business growth.
  • Participating in internal or external client management as deemed suitable.
  • Conducting formal training sessions as part of courses organized for both internal and external clients.
  • Executing activities in accordance with internal protocols, accreditation programs, legislative requirements, and industry standards.
  • Pursuing Continuous Professional Development to uphold a strong command of discipline-specific knowledge and stay well-informed.
  • Mentoring or coaching fellow technical employees to effectively share and apply technical expertise.
  • Undertaking project management tasks as applicable, including monitoring the progress and financial expenditure of approved projects against budgets and contractual obligations.


What you bring 


  • A degree or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution by Lloyd’s Register in Metallurgy or a relevant field of Material engineering or physical science. Alternatively, qualifications from a marine or nautical institution along with relevant experience as a certified ship’s officer.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, at a level commensurate with the requirements of the role, along with effective interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the aspects related to design, manufacturing, fabrication, inspection, and certification of materials and products for the marine and offshore sectors.
  • Extensive knowledge of Classification Rules and Certification procedures and processes, along with a comprehensive understanding of the overall technological requirements within this field.
  • Profound knowledge of Metallic materials (e.g. steelmaking, rolling, forging, casting)  manufacturing technology and its applications, substantiated by practical experience. Experience in their manufacturing processes, certification and selection.
  • In-depth expertise in inspection within marine and offshore construction, supported by demonstrated experience.
