What we’re looking for

As part of this role, you will be working for a detail-oriented and innovative Vessel Operations Data Analyst to join our team. This role will focus on analysing vessel performance, developing interactive dashboards, and implementing automation solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in Excel and data visualization, along with a solid understanding of data analysis methodologies. You will collaborate with the Vessel Operations Team and cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decisions and improve operational efficiency through automated reporting processes.

 What we offer you

  • The opportunity to work for an organization that has a strong sense of purpose, is values driven and helps colleagues to develop professionally and personally through our range of people development programmes.
  • A Full-time permanent role

 The role

Vessel Performance Analysis & Optimization:

Integrate and analyse data from systems like FM, IMS, and MIP, focusing on vessel performance metrics such as fuel consumption, speed, and engine efficiency. Ensure data accuracy through validation, cleaning, and automation. Identify performance trends and inefficiencies to recommend improvements, including fuel savings and emissions reductions. Use historical and real-time data to build predictive models for proactive optimization.

Reporting & Visualization:

Develop and deliver performance reports with KPIs, assisting with highlighting trends and areas for improvement. Analyse operational data to identify patterns like fuel waste or inefficiencies. Present insights through interactive dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for clarity and actionability. Ensure dashboards are user-friendly for stakeholders with varying technical expertise.

Historical Performance Benchmarking:

Use historical data to establish performance baselines and analyse long-term trends in vessel efficiency, fuel consumption, and engine performance. Integrate insights with machine learning models for predictive analysis and refine benchmarks. Regularly review and adjust benchmarks based on model outputs and real-world fleet performance.

Root Cause Analysis:

Analyse performance inefficiencies like fuel overconsumption and engine issues, collaborating with technical teams to diagnose and recommend corrective actions based on data-driven insights.

 Reporting:

  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports for internal stakeholders, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Automate report generation processes to minimize manual effort and ensure consistency.
  • Develop ad-hoc reports as requested by management, focusing on providing valuable insights and recommendations.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with business units to understand their reporting needs and provide relevant, timely data insights.
  • Present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Train end-users on dashboard functionalities and Excel automation processes.

What you bring

Experience & Education:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, or related field.
  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related role with hands-on experience in Excel automation and dashboard development.
  • Industry Knowledge: Prior experience working with/in a Marine Industry and vessel domain is an added advantage. Experience in relevant industries (e.g., Shipping, Logistics, Operations) is a plus, but not required

Technical Skills:

  • Data Collection & Integration: Expertise in collecting and integrating raw data from various systems, including API integration for fleet management, IoT sensors, and maintenance logs.
  • Data Cleaning & Validation: Proficient in using Python (Pandas, NumPy) or R for data wrangling, cleaning, validation, and automating data accuracy checks.
  • Data Analysis & Modelling: Strong skills in statistical analysis, predictive analytics, and regression models for vessel performance, with experience in time-series analysis for forecasting.
  • Machine Learning & Predictive Analytics: Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow) for fleet optimization and model evaluation to refine operational strategies.
  • Data Visualization & Reporting: Advanced proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, and Google Data Studio for creating dynamic, real-time performance dashboards and automated reports.
  • Automation & Workflow Optimization: Expertise in automating workflows using Python or SQL, with experience in ETL pipelines and cloud platforms like AWS and Azure for scalable data management.
  • Database Management & Big Data: Skilled in SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB), along with big data tools (Hadoop, Spark) for processing large-scale datasets in cloud environments.

Professional Skills:

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to interpret complex datasets and identify trends for vessel performance improvement.
  • Clear communication of technical data to non-technical stakeholders and presenting insights to senior management and operational teams.
  • Collaborative team player with experience working across departments to align data analysis with organizational goals.
  • High attention to detail, ensuring data accuracy and reliability in performance reporting.
  • Effective time and project management skills, handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
