In the role of Principal Human Factors Specialist, we are seeking for an individual who can offer leadership and strategic guidance to our Human Factors team. Your role will involve directing and assisting the team in the creation and implementation of Human Factors advisory products and services, with the aim of not only meeting but surpassing our customers' expectations.

The role 

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Human Factors department, offering strategic direction, mentorship, and support to a global team of HF specialists.
  • Formulate and execute the strategic vision and objectives of the HF department, ensuring alignment with the company's broader goals.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for human factors matters across the organization, both internally and externally. Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams to deliver exceptional value to our clients.
  • Cultivate and nurture long-term client relationships, leveraging feedback to continually enhance our existing range of services, processes, procedures, and deliverables. Innovate and develop new offerings in response to client needs.
  • Manage the department's budget efficiently, allocating resources to support projects effectively.
  • Lead and contribute to projects, ensuring their completion in compliance with quality system requirements, cost structures, and contractual commitments.
  • Execute activities in accordance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, relevant regulatory prerequisites, and industry standards.
  • Create technical proposals for clients, encompassing estimated costs and delivery timelines.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development, maintaining a high level of discipline, knowledge, and industry awareness.
  • Act as a mentor and technical authority for fellow team members, providing support through coaching and effective knowledge transfer, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Perform routine administration tasks as required, following established processes and procedures.

  

What you bring 

  • Hold a degree or equivalent from an institution recognized by Lloyd’s Register, with a focus on Human Factors Engineering, Psychology, or a related field (preferably a program of at least two years). Alternatively, possess qualifications from a marine or nautical institution, coupled with relevant sea-going experience as a certified ship's officer.
  • Relevant years of experience in leading a team of Human Factors specialists.
  • Be a member of an appropriate professional institution, such as the British Psychological Society or the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors.
  • Possess extensive experience and technical expertise in Human Factors techniques, principles, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Be eligible to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance.
  • Demonstrate significant experience in conducting user research, interviews, testing, and data analysis.
  • Show a strong customer-focused approach, proactiveness, and high motivation to support clients by meeting deadlines and providing regular progress updates.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and influencing skills, alongside robust team-working and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the English language, aligned with the demands of the role, and the ability to produce and thoroughly review comprehensive and detailed written reports.
  • Ideally, have experience in the Marine, Oil and Gas, and/or Energy sectors.
  • Experience in project management is considered advantageous.
  • Proficiency in the English language at a level commensurate with the work requirements.
