The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Surveyor who will be Lloyd’s Register’s focal point of contact for operations in Iceland. The surveyor will be based in our office in Reykjavik but travel within the area will be required.


Our customers look to us for engineering expertise with a solution-based approach to reducing risk; ensuring they can operate efficiently and safely in the harshest of environments. You will be part of a team of passionate technicians, independently visiting sites.


You will draw on your experience to score marine assets against relevant standards, inspecting, approving and assessing installations, parts of installations, reparations and/or products whether new or in service.


You will:

  • Be performing periodical and statutory surveys on board existing ships and fishing trawlers/vessels in accordance with applicable Rules & Regulations, Statutory instruments and respective codes. A thorough knowledge of the Torremolinos Code as utilised on Small Fishing Vessels (SFV) is expected.
  • Carry out reporting in an accurate and timely manner and ensure that the reporting is both technically and legally correct.
  • Offer extensive advice, and applicable consultancy in areas of modern marine machinery as used on trawlers.


You will need:

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the field of engineering, and /or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution. Previous sea-going experience is a distinct advantage, especially on sea-going trawlers as a certified engineer.
  • To be aware of the marine business acumen, both in the developing of existing business and reaching for new opportunities.
  • Good knowledge of the English language and ability to communicate effectively (both oral and written); Icelandic is a prerequisite for any applicant.
  • IT literate with good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Package
