Job Overview:

This position at Senior Surveyor grade is Plymouth based, dealing predominantly with the survey of Naval and auxiliary vessels under refit, and reporting to the lead surveyor based in Southampton. Occasional travel outside of the Plymouth area will also be required.

Job Responsibilities:

In this role the successful candidate will be expected to manage the relationship with the Shipyard and UK MoD clients and co-ordinate survey activities in conjunction with the lead surveyor and the resident surveyors.

Service delivery activities also include periodical classification and statutory surveys of naval ships, auxiliary ships, and some commercial ships. Experience of equipment and component surveys is also required.

Job Requirements:

A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd's Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme) or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution/Navy and relevant sea-going experience as a Marine Engineer Officer.
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of classification and statutory surveys including a previous position of responsibility such as a classification, flag surveyor or equivalent is desirable.
In depth knowledge and experience of the application of classification rules and regulations, and essential statutory requirements for Marine Periodical survey work.
In depth knowledge and experience of marine repairs, materials and equipment surveys.
ISM/ISPS/ILO qualified or a sound working knowledge of marine management systems would be advantageous.
Chartered Engineer status is not essential but it is expected that the successful candidate will at least be working towards Chartered status.
Client focussed, PC literate and commercially aware.,
To be aware of corporate Health and Safety policies and procedures,
A full clean UK driving licence is essential.
Applicants must be proficient in the English language and have UK residency and a work permit for the UK.
Ability to obtain UK MoD security clearance is required.
