Role purpose:

Responsible for providing prompt, practical and pro-active legal advice and assistance on disputes and litigation for a geographical area/ subject specialism (employment matters/commercial matters etc).

Engender a culture of partnership between the legal team and the business, whereby the legal team is commercially focused and is regarded as a trusted adviser, providing pragmatic and commercially astute solutions to enable business plans and to develop a culture where risk is understood and balanced with reward rather than avoided.


Key Responsibilities:

Provide responsive, pragmatic, commercially astute legal support to the business and operations within specified region/ area of specialism

Review, advise upon and negotiate contracts in specified region/ area of specialism

Manage and coordinate external lawyers and associated costs 

Advise on debt collection and bankruptcy issues for specified region/area of specialism including issuing and conducting court proceedings against debtors and issuing enforcement proceedings

Work with relevant operational leaders to prevent undesirable corporate legal consequences

Advise on client complaints and disputes as appropriate

To collaborate with the finance/commercial and other functions to ensure consistency in development and delivery of business/commercial services

Deal with business development queries and build relationships with internal and external clients, as appropriate to resolve service problems and build the business across LRQA

To provide legal advice and support on mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, joint ventures and other corporate transactions and corporate restructuring in North Asia.

To contribute to the formulation and monitoring of legal aspects of corporate policies

Review and update standard contracts as required

Advise on labour and employment law for specified area as required

Advise on dispute resolution and manage litigation for specified area as required

Provide information and insight to leadership on new legislation and advise on its impacts for area of responsibility – support policy implementation where required

Provide legal support in furthering LRQA’s anti-bribery and corruption policy, including delivering training, undertaking appropriate due diligence, and leading on internal investigations as necessary


Key Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Eliminate or minimise employee's exposure to risks by reviewing, regularly, the health and safety risk register, applying appropriate controls, communicating results of risk assessment and ensuring health and safety is considered in the planning and execution of all LRQA activities.

Manage your own and your team's compliance with health and safety rules, instructions, systems and legal requirements, ensuring employees are suitably trained and adequate resources are available to work safely.

Monitor and review health and safety performance, observe safety behaviours in the workplace, taking appropriate corrective and preventive action as necessary and suggesting and implementing improvement activities.

Technical / Professional Qualifications / Requirements:

Honours law degree. Up to date practising certificate

Professionally qualified – demonstrable post qualification legal experience gained ideally both in private practice and in-house.

Good working knowledge of contract, employment, competition, intellectual property and general commercial law.

Experience in advising in relation to contentious and non-contentious employment law matters and other litigation and dispute resolution.

IT literate – good working knowledge of Windows, Word, internet programs and applications etc

Some relevant dispute resolution/litigation experience.

Extensive negotiating experience.

A can-do mind set and customer-focused, commercially astute, collaborative approach to developing partnerships between the legal team and the business

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
