As a key member of the Lloyd’s Register Maritime Decarbonisation Hub team, you will be integral to our work driving the sustainable decarbonisation of the maritime industry.  An experienced communications professional, you’ll play an integral part in developing and executing our communications strategy and tracking results.

In your role you will position the Maritime Decarbonisation Hub as an independent voice, providing technical expertise and evidence-based insight to the shipping ecosystem and its energy supply chain. You will establish and maintain the Maritime Decarbonisation Hub as a key convenor of dialogue around shipping’s journey to net zero by 2050.  You will be instrumental in influencing the private sector to take action, stimulating the formation of multi-disciplinary coalitions around the world, each focused on achieving tangible change.

This role acts as a custodian of the Maritime Decarbonisation Hub brand providing the wider organisation with the messaging and supporting collateral to ensure consistent engagements with external stakeholders located worldwide in many sectors both within the maritime community and beyond (for example clean energy, oceans and oil and gas).  Whilst at the same time ensuring that the Maritime Decarbonisation Hub is fully aligned with the brand, marketing and communications activity across the LR group.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Bring together an understanding of stakeholder challenges and the technical work of the Maritime Decarbonisation Hub to create stories and messaging that both resonates with our audiences and inspires action.
  2. Work with marketing, communications, policy and technical colleagues to develop LR’s advocacy positions and thought leadership on key themes.
  3. Develop and execute external communications campaigns, working closely with LR’s external communications team.  Work with LR’s area marketing and commercial teams to provide regional and local media advice and support – both with content and delivery.
  4. Develop and execute internal communications campaigns to support our customer facing teams so they have the knowledge and assets to consistently communicate our message to their stakeholders, working closely with LR’s internal communications team.   
  5. Work with our technical specialists to identify the key messages from their work and construct narratives that highlight the impact of this work, engaging non-technical audiences to understand and act.
  6. Develop ideas and concepts for marketing assets that bring the messaging and narratives to life.  Work with LR go-to-market colleagues and with agencies to develop these assets and execute campaigns.
  7. Write compelling copy appropriate for audience and channel, from website and white papers to social media posts and interview talking points.
  8. Develop communications materials for customer facing teams, executives and spokespeople to support their both day to day external engagements and high profile events.
  9. Work with marketing and commercial colleagues to identify speaking opportunities globally for LR’s spokespeople.
  10. Build and maintain relationships with industry bodies, NGOs, journalists, businesses, government, regulators and other key influencers to extend LR’s voice and influence beyond our core maritime audience.    Develop and manage a stakeholder map to measure progress.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of experience in a marketing and communications-related field.
  • Knowledge of climate change and sustainability issues and how they impact complex supply chains and systems.
  • Knowledge of commercial, government and NGO sectors with an understanding of how to communicate effectively within each.
  • Experience, working with a range of media channels and a proven track record of placing strategic storylines;
  • Ability to rapidly absorb a wide range of complex business, communications and policy issues with strong interest in knowledge development and dissemination.
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills, in particular the ability to distil complex ideas into accessible internal and external copy.
  • Maritime industry knowledge is helpful but not essential.
  • Strong digital marketing skills including content management systems, social media management tools
