Lloyd’s Register’s (LR) Maritime Professional Services (MPS) help maritime clients around the world to achieve their business goals improving asset performance, optimising safety, and enhancing sustainability. In addition to providing professional technical / engineering advisory services, LR’s clients are increasingly requesting that LR leverage its deep knowledge of the industry and Naval Architecture to support them in ship design, construction, and operability advisory services. These services include supporting clients in design and modification feasibility studies, design risk studies, independent yard and vendor assessments, independent owner support through construction, mooring assessment, failure investigations, life extension studies, and polar region operation assessments.

 

This role will be within the Performance, Design and Environment (PDE) advisory group of MPS which provides the maritime value chain with a comprehensive portfolio of advisory services associated with decarbonisation, vessel design, and environmental sustainability. The PDE group works closely with all LR professional services groups to provide holistic and meaningful solutions to our client’s unique challenges.

 

The successful candidate for this role will have a passion for Naval architecture, excellent communication skills and an inquisitive mind willing to learn about new technologies. The individual will join the global network of 4,000+ talented LR colleagues and provide specialist advisory services to ship owners, shipyards, charterers, and equipment suppliers.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake project work as agreed with stakeholders (either individually or as part of a team), including providing progress updates to project stakeholders, requesting and exchanging information with clients, preparing and presenting project deliverables.
  • Attend vessels, shipyards, or equipment manufacturing facilities as required for project work.
  • Undertake project management and administrative tasks according to establishes procedures and take responsibility for monitoring project progress, spend against budget, contract requirements and project closure, with emphasis on quality and timing. When necessary, informing project stakeholders of any threats to successful on-time and on budget project completion.
  • Provide clear, well-written technical reports and discuss / present the deliverables with the internal / external client up to senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Manage clients’ needs in a confident, professional manner.
  • Support the development of innovative services and products that meet clients’ current and emerging challenges.
  • Through identification and quantification of client challenges, develop clear and compelling technical and commercial value propositions for both external and internal stakeholders within an agreed fee / cost structure.

 

To be considered:

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the field of Naval architecture or mechanical engineering. Post graduate degree in engineering (MSc, MEng, or PhD) is not required but would be highly regarded.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution and working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Demonstrable experience in the shipping industry.
  • Previous experience in a Naval architecture consultancy business would be advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of naval architecture, ship design and construction.
  • Strong consultancy and engineering-oriented mindset.
  • Flexibility to take on new challenges with an enquiring mind.
  • The ability to work on your own or as part of a team on larger projects.
  • Proven ability in the project management process, gained through experience, involving complex projects and stakeholder relationships.
  • Proficiency in the English Language with excellent writing skills.
