Lloyd’s Register (LR) Maritime Professional Services (MPS) help maritime clients around the world to achieve their business goals improving asset performance, optimising safety, and enhancing sustainability. In addition to providing professional technical / engineering advisory services, LR’s clients are increasingly requesting that LR leverage its deep knowledge of the industry and ship performance to support them with decarbonisation advisory services. These services include supporting client challenges associated with energy efficiency technologies, efficient and sustainable ship operations, independent assurance and verification of performance and design.


This role will be within the Performance, Design and Environment (PDE) advisory group of MPS which provides the maritime value chain with a comprehensive portfolio of advisory services associated with decarbonisation, vessel design, and environmental sustainability. The PDE group works closely with all LR professional services groups to provide holistic and meaningful solutions to our client’s unique challenges. 


The successful candidate for this role will have a passion for ship performance, digital technology, strong commercial acumen, excellent communication skills and an inquisitive mind willing to learn about new technologies. The individual will join the global network of 4,000+ talented LR colleagues and provide specialist advisory services to ship owners, charterers, non-governmental organisations and the shipping finance community in the areas of ship performance, energy saving technologies, and alternative fuels. The successful candidate will also use their skills to assist the team developing our digital ship performance products which help our clients with the decarbonisation challenge. These digital products use LR’s advanced ship performance models, large scale datasets such as automatic identification system (AIS) data and global weather data, data streamed from client ships and LR’s extensive in-house databases of marine assets and technologies.


Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake project work as agreed with stakeholders (either individually or as part of a team), including providing progress updates to project stakeholders, requesting and exchanging information with clients, preparing and presenting project deliverables.
  • Undertake project management and administrative tasks according to established procedures and take responsibility for monitoring project progress, spend against budget, contract requirements and project closure, with emphasis on quality and timing. When necessary, informing project stakeholders of any threats to successful on-time and on budget project completion.
  • Provide clear, well-written technical reports and discuss / present the deliverables with the internal / external client up to senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
  • Support the development of innovative digital based services and products that meet clients' current and emerging challenges, particularly in the area of ship performance and ship technology.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams drawing on wider Lloyd’s Register resources to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Achieve targets for chargeable time in specialist area, in line with team management expectations.


To be considered:

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the field of Naval architecture, mechanical engineering, or data science. Post graduate degree in engineering or data science (MSc, MEng, or PhD) is not required but would be an asset
  • Proven ability in the technical domains of advanced data analysis, engineering model development and software development.
  • Proven ability with Python, databases and cloud services is essential.
  • A passion for solving challenging engineering problems using advanced data analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of the marine industry and naval architecture.
  • The ability to work on your own or as part of a team on larger projects.
  • Strong consultancy and engineering-oriented mindset.
  • Flexibility to take on new challenges with an enquiring mind.
  • To have an ambitious, positive, and self-motivated attitude.
  • Proven ability in the project management process, gained through experience, involving complex projects and stakeholder relationships.
  • Proficiency in the English language commensurate with the work.
