Job Overview

The Entry into Class (EIC) department is integral to Marine Classification, and has overall responsibility for co-ordinating and managing the entry into classification of newbuilds (First Entry) and existing ships (Transfer of Class and Acceptance into Class), from superyachts to supertankers, from sail-assisted to dual-fuelled ships at the leading edge of technical innovation.
 

The purpose of the role is to provide technical support to field surveyors and business development teams alike, with regard to Lloyd’s Register’s Entry into Class TOC process so that we deliver a continually improving classification service to owners and operators of ships in the LR fleet in accordance with our Mission and Values.
 

This role provides an opportunity to participate in critical business processes which lie at the heart of Marine Classification based at Lloyd’s Register’s (LR) Global Technology Centre in the City of Southampton. By ensuring consistent application of our global standards, together we can provide safety and business assurance across the LR fleet and share our world-class expertise with our clients and other stakeholders.
You will face the challenge of being able to deal effectively with a wide range of technical and commercial issues so that ships enter LR class in a smooth and efficient manner. You will be dealing with people across our global network of offices and you will need to offer solutions with timely turnaround, recognising that this is central to the achievement of LR’s growth strategy.

 

The Entry into Class Specialist opportunity is a fixed term contract for 6 months 

 

Your will

  • Manage a caseload for ships entering Lloyd's Register class through the Transfer of Class process
  • Co-ordinate the acquisition and processing of technical data for ships in the caseload
  • Prepare endorsement reports for submission to the Classification Executive Committee
  • Liaise with surveyors and Clients regarding matters associated with class and regulatory compliance
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to those undertaking class entry work
  • Monitor adherence to classification procedures in order to ensure that defined standards and performance measures are upheld
  • Contribute to the improvement of team processes
  • Contribute to the training and development of team members

 

You will need

  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd’s Register within the relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme), or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution or working towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
  • In-depth experience of carrying out class and statutory surveys on ships.
  • Knowledge of Class Entry processes.
  • Detailed understanding of ship configuration, hull structure, main propulsion and power generation/distribution arrangements, matched by general knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL and other IMO regulations
